It was getting closer to December. You could see the leaves fall off the trees before they die for the season. Going outside became harder with the chilly wind cutting through your flesh, especially in the dead of the night. The daughters of the castle seemed more gloomy. They couldn't go outside nor could they get close to the windows to watch the winter pass by each day. You brought in wood from outside to warm up the castle for the afternoon and notice Daniela sitting on the staircase steps. Usually she has a book in her hands but she was only holding her knees and looking down into the wood floor. "What's wrong, miss Daniela? Are you out of stories to read?" you ask. She turned her head to you and looked back down at her feet, taking a long pause before answering back "I've read the entire library at least four or five times. While its nice to get back into a familiar story, I just cannot help but adore the ones about the snow. Its.. one of the most romantic scenes in my favorite books.. but ill never get to know what that's like."

You looked away before saying anything else, not knowing how to respond to that. Daniela stood up and walked over to you slowly. "I'll take some of these. After all, I burdened you with my sulking, darling." She took a few pieces of firewood from your arms and walked upstairs into the main hall. You followed behind her, thinking of what you could say or do to change her mood. "You said that you wanted to go outside in the snow like in your romance novels?" She stopped and turned around, answering quietly "Not only that.. I just long for the warmth. In my favorite story, there is this part where the main character sits on a bench, waiting for her date. It was icy and cold. Her date came and noticed how cold she was, so he bought her a hot drink. She was clumsy and dropped it. The boy took his jacket off to cover her till she was warm and risked catching a cold. I.. want to experience that feeling of cold and warmth."

You watched her as she rambled about her favorite story. Daniela placed down the firewood by your door and moved her hand over to your shoulder. You hesitate to say a word before she planted a kiss on your cheek. You both exchanged eyes and her hand slid up to your cheek. Her eyes narrowed down to your lips and back up to your eyes. You managed to look away and she smiled at your body reaction. "I am looking forward to seeing you at dinner, [Y/N]." You nod and watched her walk away, down the hall. "I have to figure out what I can do to help her. She seemed like she was holding back something." you think to yourself. Loud footsteps echoed through the hall, deep and loud. Someone was ascending the staircase slowly. Your heart pounded as the brim of a wide hat appeared over the first steps. "Cassaaaaaanda! Where did you put my lipstick!?"

Your heart raced as you felt the tension in Lady Dimitrescu's voice. You lowered your head and turned around, hoping she wouldn't lash out at the first person she sees. You heard her footsteps stop at the hall entrance. "Usually you aren't this incapable at doing your house duties, [Y/N]. What has gotten into you today?" she asked. You made a frowned expression and a soft sigh. "W..well.. I just had something on my mind lately. I was worried about Daniela. It seems everyday, she gets quieter and keeps to herself more. I don't know what to say to her nor do I know what to do about it." Lady Dimitrescu brushed the brim of her hat and looked up at the light fixtures. "It happens every coming winter. Daniela especially takes this time of year to heart. She has really big dreams... but she has always been the most ambitious of my three daughters and that is her downfall." She walked over to you, her heels clicked against the wooden floors. Your arms felt lose and numb from the tall woman towering over you and she softly bent down to make eye level with you. "I just.. want to say something to her but each time I have a thought in my mind, I just don't know how to express how to say it" you muttered softly.

Flies buzzed around your ankles and you felt a cold object glide along your neck, causing you to shiver. "Hehe.. oh you.. why don't you just say what on your mind, lovely? Daniela isn't the type to think your opinions wouldn't matter" Cassandra whispered to you. "Cassandra how dare you smear my expensive lipstick! It will be a long time before you ever see the end of your punishment! Come here!" Cassandra took the lipstick off your neck and sighed, holding it out to her mother. "I'm sorry mother, I wont steal your lipstick again." Lady Dimitrescu snatched the lipstick away from her and grabbed her hand, causing her to whine then looked over at your neck to see a red heart drawn over it. She grunted while pulled Cassandra to her bedroom chambers then slammed the door loudly. You shook your head and walked into the nearest room. After you threw wood into the fireplace, the sparks flew up and spiraled down to the ashes beneath. "Wait.. I think I have an idea. This reminds me of something I adored as a child" you muttered to yourself.
