Chapter 2-A Tragic Loss
I was lying on my bed staring at my ceiling thinking about my new school and will I fit in? Will everybody know about my mistakes? What kinds of people is there going to be? All these questions were flooding my mind when I heard a ear piercing shriek come from downstairs. Startled I leaped off my bed and didn't move. The house was silent, so silent I could hear my heart beat. I slowly moved towards the staircase, I looked down the many stairs and saw my mum kneeling down beside a lifeless figure.
"MUM!" I yelled as I ran down the stairs worried she was hurt. She was in tears and in front of her was one of our maids. Her name was Lila, she was 67 years old and yet still worked so she could support for her family.
"What happened?" I asked.
"I-I have no idea, hurry alexia c-call an ambulance" she replied, you could hear the fear in her voice. Lila was her favourite maid, but she was more of a best friend than a maid for my mum. With no hesitation I called the ambulance and it arrived within minutes. We sat in silence in the waiting room at Waitakere hospital, mum was still in tears and dad had his arm around her. The doctor came out he looked gloomy and upset.
"I'm sorry-" he started to say.
"Noooooo!" Mum squeeled, more and more tears gushed from her eyes. She started to have some difficulty breathing.
"-Lila has not made it. I'm sorry for your loss." He said.
I don't want to sound mean or anything but I didn't really care too much for Lila, I mean she's another maid just like the rest of them. Knowing it would take them a long time to sort all this stuff out I got $50 from dad and got a taxi home. The moment I took a step inside all the maids looked at me, their eyes filling with tears. I hung my head and slowly shook it and slowly walked up the stairs. At the top of the stairs the house filled with the sound of crying. I closed my door and leaped on to my bed, I looked over at my clock. 6:47pm, I'm really tired so I slipped my clothes off hopped into bed and went to sleep.
