Day By Day

Chapter 1

I walked out of my room and walked right into my older brother, Dean. I looked up at him and gave him my sorry eyes. Since I had chosen to be mute 4 years ago after my mother died due to a drunk driver, I had to learn to speak to people without actually speaking. Dean really hated it. it thought it was stupid. But he understood that i did it out of pain. he just felt like it was his fault.
"Geez, Kase, do you have to always run into me?" he asked smiling down on me. He had this superstar smile that every girl at our school loved. Dean was only one year older than me, but he was about 6 or so inches taller than me. It made me feel really short  standing next to him.
I shook my head no.
He laughed and walked to his room. i went on my way to the kitchen. Dad was making his coffee. he said, "Goodmorning, sleeping beauty."
I smiled. I loved it when he called me that. Dad always knew how to make me feel so special. I wrote on a paper and handed it to him it read: Goodmorning to you too sir. I can see some gray in your hair.
It was a joke between me and him. He would point out when my hair was fading and i would point out when his gray was showing.
"Kase, your pink on top is not as bright. I think we need to redo it."
I smiled at him and went to the pantry and grabbed my hot chocolate mix. I fixed my hot chocolate listening for Dean to come down the stairs.
As soon as i heard him come down, I grabbed my schoolbag from the couch and went put it in his car. Dean was a Junior in highschool and i was a Sophomore. Everybody loved us. They just loved Dean more. many people at our school think that i was mute from birth but the people who knew me before Mom died, they knew that i used to speak. i used to sing too. But everything stopped because my mother died. She was my best friend. she knew everything. She knew when i was having a bad day. She knew when i liked someone. She knew everything and now she is gone. People don't understand me.
