*Nicole's POV*

It's been two days since I found the picture. I'm now more attentive to Matt's schedule
I'm not ready to lose everything not yet. I need to plan ahead. Have my ducks in a row as they say.
I did everything right to change my path I was on as a teen, and here I stand about to go right back to those days. Hell no! I'm not going back.

I have a lunch date with the girls. So we meet up.
Laura and Jack have decided to end their marriage.
Susie is arguing more with Joe over redecorating their house.
Becky and Michael are still moving ahead on the wedding plans.
"Matt is so busy at work and I'm looking into finishing my bachelors in criminal law. The kids are getting of age where I can begin working. Otherwise all is great. "

That's the fourth lie I've told my friends. Well half lie.

I am getting back to finishing my degree.
At the end of lunch. Susie and Becky head out. Laura and I head to the restroom before going shopping.

Something is up. I can sense it in Laura's demeanor.

"What's got your mind spinning ?" I ask.
As we round the mall, she gently grabs my hand and says, " how are things at home Nikki? I mean what's happening over there?" I wasn't thinking much to the question as we always ask eachother questions like such, yet her demeanor says it's not casual nor the follow up question.
"It's fine, Matt is under stress as usual and the kids climbing the wall, I'm considering going back to finish my bachelors in criminology but I don't feel as passionate about it as I did years ago. I think I'm going to change direction."
She clapped her hands together and says that's awesome and what was I thinking of changing it to. I replied business administration, as it's nothing to overwhelming and wouldn't take time from the kids as much as criminology would. She does a follow up to her follow up question asking which catches me off guard.
" that's so good I'm excited for you. What I also want to know is how are things with Matt specifically?"
"It's fabulous. He's such a great husband and father I really got lucky!"
She squeezes my hand and resolves her inquiry with a smile.

I looked at my best friend smiled and lied a fifth time to her face.
