Louis shivered as he layed on the ground, underneath the park bench.

It was pouring rain, and he could hear rumbling thunder in the distance, the sky lighting up when lightning struck, weaving through the air like veins.

He pulled the blanket, that he's had since he was four, up so that it was just under his chin.

He thinks back to how, when he was little, he would read the Harry Potter books. The part in the first book, with Harry drawing a cake in the dirt and grime of the lighthouse, would make him cry every time he read it.

Chuckling sadly to himself, he draws a cake of his own, taking the time to draw twenty different lines on the top of it, before he blows the candles out, scattering the dirt particles.

"Happy birthday, Louis," he whispers to himself, his voice breaking as he says 'birthday.'

-

Louis walks along the sidewalk, carrying his ratty old backpack along with him, having secured it to his back.

There's not much in there - an old, crinkled water bottle that he's had for two months, his blanket, his wallet (with two dollars), a sweater that's too small on him now, a combination lock, and a pair of thick socks he keeps for the winter nights.

He flashes a smile at each passing person, rarely ever getting acknowledged, as he heads down to the local library.

After last night, he decided to go over and see if they had the first Harry Potter book that he could read.

As he gets there, he pulls the water bottle out of his bag, heading to where the bathrooms are located, as well as the water fountains.

He unscrews the cap, and begins filling his water bottle.

Once it's full, he screws the lid back on tightly, putting it securely back into his bag, before he begins drinking from the fountain until he feels full.

Once he got to the books, he began looking in the sections he thought the first book would be in.

And, to his luck, he found five of the books. The first five in the series.

He grabbed the first one, the Sorcerer's Stone, and headed to the nearest - empty - table to read.

He kept his backpack against his chest and between his bent legs, his feet propped up in his chair.

He rested his chin on the bag as he began reading.

-

He didn't know how long he had been sitting there reading, but he was now on the 53th page, where there's a list of things Harry Potter would need for Hogwarts.

As he was going to the next line, all of a sudden, in his mind, appears;

Your soulmate has given you: 5 dollars

Louis' eyes went wide in shock, and his mouth opened.

He stared blankly at the page for a long time, before he was hastily opening his backpack, rummaging through his few items, and pulling out his trusty old wallet.

And, sure enough, there was seven freaking dollars in there!

Louis' eyes got a bit watery, and he grinned so wide as he looked at the money in his wallet.

The five dollars, that were given to him by his soulmate, were as obvious as a sore thumb.

They were new and crisp, not a single wrinkle on them. And when Louis took them from his wallet, they lied flat instead of folding in half like his other dollar bills.

He put his money back into his wallet, and closed the book, using the cover flap to bookmark his spot, before he turned to the two girls in the table next to his.

"Excuse me, could you watch my spot really quick?" He asked them politely.

They looked at him, "Sure, no problem," one of them replied.

"Thank you," Louis said, taking his bag with him to the vending machine.

He looked over all the options, and decided on a coke and a bag of crisps, Which would be two dollars.

He was so excited to get a treat for himself for the first in years. He had actually forgotten what soda tasted like.

The carbonation would probably be weird to him.

He took his wallet again, taking his two old dollar bills, before flattening them as best as he could, putting one into the machine.

He typed in the code for a pack of potato crisps, watching as the spiral thing swirled, slowly dispensing the crisps.

Then, he put the second dollar in and put the code for a coke, watching again as it dispensed the drink.

He took both of his snacks from the bottom inside the flap, putting them, along with his wallet, into his backpack, before he went back to his seat.

"Thanks again," he said to the two girls.

They smiled at him, "You're welcome," the other girl replied.

Louis went back to his book, with hope fluttering through his stomach.

Maybe his soulmate will send him more money?

Maybe it will be enough for Louis to start getting his life back on track?
