The meeting room in Stirling MaxPol was cramped with MaxPols. It was the largest room in the building, but it still could not fit everyone. Every MaxPol in Stirling were there, including many more from MaxPol Headquarters, including the Commissioner of MaxPol, the Chief of all MaxPols – Commissioner Benjamin Linden.
He had just briefed the room with the biggest case that he had encountered ever since he took the office of the Commissioner, about six years ago.
The case of Axel Light or known as Operation Lumen.
The labyrinth of the case was extensive, with Axel Light in the centre of it all.
First, the case of the murders of Edward and Natasha Light. At the point of murder, they could had still been Non-Magical. After an extensive and heated discussion with the Stirling City Police, Linden had manged to wrestle the case back to MaxPol. The Lights, after all, were Magical by birth.
Secondly, the bizarre case where Axel Light had suddenly appeared in the Magical Registrar and subsequently became a Magical at age sixteen. It had never happened before as far as anyone alive could remember. This was the case that had brought Linden to the Lights' residence in the first place. They were there to arrest Axel Light, until they knew what to do with him. They thought that they would find someone who knew dark magic or someone threatening to the Magical World. Not a boy who had just lost his parents; weak, clueless and suicidal.
Third, a cold case that had suddenly became hot rod – the case of the missing persons Edward Light and Natasha Wyndham from sixteen years ago. This case itself were initially two cases, but now, there was no reason to separate them.
Fourthly, the Elites – a known group of rebellious Magical – had shown their tracks. They had been acting in the shadows for many years and their master had been quiet for many years. Some had even thought that the cult had slowly died. Nothing was heard of their leader, Cyrus Veldor for a long time. Suddenly, they had decided to show their colours.
Linden had never thought that the Elites were totally gone. He had been anticipating a resurgence or some movements from them at any time during his watch. He was constantly on alert and had never let his guard down. But their sudden reappearance was still unexpected and beyond his imagination.
It was like a dam that had suddenly burst, water came crashing down beyond anyone's control. And Linden was trying very hard to stay focused and in control in the swirling waters. On top of everything, he would need to ensure the safety and well-being of Axel Light. He had a strong hunch that everything revolved around him. As long as Axel Light was at their side, they would have the upper hand.
Axel did not know much about magic and the Magical world. He did not have a wand. He did not even know one spell. Yet, he was not a child. He would be difficult to teach, and he did not have the luxury to take his time to cultivate Magical abilities. He had to learn and understand everything quickly.
Linden had been very careful with the information that he would let Axel know. Axel must know enough information, but not everything.
Balance. There must be a balance in everything. Especially in the Magical world.
'Finlay, the murders had occurred in Stirling. You lead the team about the murders,' said Linden.
Lieutenant Arthur Finlay, the Chief of the Department of Crime Investigation of Stirling MaxPol, nodded, 'Yes, Sir!'
'Nottingway,' said Linden, he turned to face the Chief of Forensics from MaxPol Headquarters, Commander Felix Nottingway, 'Exhaust everything you have to find out how did Axel became a Magical, or rather, how was he hidden from the Magical world since birth. If you can run some tests on Edward and Natasha Light, maybe there are some traces or clues.'
