The next day, I woke up early and begged for my mother to get up. When she finally did, I asked her if she would go with me to the castle on the hill.

"Did your grandmother tell you another one of her silly stories last night before... Nevermind, did she?"

I shook my head. "It wasn't a story, mother. Not to mention, I just have a feeling that I need to go there. Please can you go with me?"

"Honey, it might be dangerous. I don't think that we should go. Besides, what if something was to happen to you? I don't know..."

I looked at my mom with a pleading look and said, "Please, mom. I have to go. I promised Grandma Kim that I would go there. For her. Please, take me there. You don't have to go in with me, just take me there."

My mother sighed. "Fine, I'll take you to the hill, but I'm staying in the car. And you only have five minutes in there, understood? Otherwise, I'm going to the police to get you out of there."

"Mother, honestly, I'll be fine. I can take care of myself. Besides, it's not like there is anybody living there, so I'll be fine. I won't get caught for trespassing or anything, so it will all be fine. Okay?"

My mother shook her head and sighed. "Fine. But if you get hurt, don't come crying to me. I've warned you. Understand?"

I smiled and nodded.

As we left the house, I took a good look at the tree that was shaped in our yard. It no longer looked like a tree, but more like a girl who was dancing. We drove a little while until we reached the castle at the top of the hill. "You sure that you don't want to go with me?" I asked before getting out of the car.

"I'm positive that I don't want to get out of this acar and go into that place. Just hurry up. This place is creepy, even in the daytime."

I shurgged and got out of the car. I headed to the old building that stood towering over me. I knew that I had seem someone running here the night before. I just had to find out who it was.

I walked into the abandoned castle, my footsteps echoing in the vast emptyness. "Hello?" I called out. "Is anyone here?"

I sighed as I reached the stairs that led upwards to the next floor. I walked up a couple of them before I stopped. I heard someone walking inside the castle who wasn't me. I spun around slowly. "Mother, is that you?" I whispered.

I turned back around and screamed slightly. Before me stood a man who was paler than I could imagine. He didn't smile at me at all. I looked him up and down and noticed that his hands were made not of fingers but of scissors.

"Oh my gosh," I breathed. "Are you... Are you Edward?"

The man looked at me a while longer. He nodded slightly. "How do you know who I am?"

I smiled at him. "Well, this might be strange for you to know, but I'm Samantha, the granddaughter of Kim. The young woman you once knew. You were at her house last night, weren't you? You were the one who made the tree look like a dancing girl."

Edward nodded.

"So you know that she's... Well, not here anymore?"

Edward nodded again. He didn't say much.

"Would you like to come back? To the house? I don't like the thought of Grandma Kim's friend being all alone. She told me that you were usually alone, though. Please, at least visit for tonight."

Edward looked away and shook his head. "The last time I left, things didn't end out good. I can't."

I slowly approached Edward. "Please just visit for a few days." I placed a hand on Edward's arm, hoping beyond all hopes that he would come back with my mom and me.

Edward shook his head. "I can't leave this place now."

I frowned. I had really wanted to get to know the man that Grandma Kim had cherished so much. "Can I visit you, then? So that you aren't so alone?"

Edward smiled. "I'd like that."

I smiled. "I should be going for now. I'll be back hopefully later, okay?"

Edward nodded. He watched me as I left. Before leaving the castle, I turned and waved to him.

"What took you so long, Samantha? I was worried about you," my mother told me when I returned to the car.

"Sorry, I was looking around a lot. Oh, and my friend texted me when I was in there. She wants me to go over to her place later tonight," I lied.

"Okay, sweetheart. Do you want me to drop you off at her house?"

"No thank you, mom. I think that I can walk to her house. It's not that far from our place anyway."

My mother drove back to our house. We remained in silence the entire way. My father wasn't happy when we got home.

"You shouldn't have taken her to that place," he told my mother. They were in the kitchen and I was in my room, but the volume of his voice echoed in the house.

I heard my mom reply, "She insisted, dear. Besides, she wasn't hurt or anything. It's not like anybody lives there anymore, so she was fine."

I smiled. No one in the town knew about Edward. It was Grandma Kim's secret. And now it was my secret.
