Katie..
I wake from my dreamless slumber when my alarm goes off. It's Monday, August 20th and the start of a new school year. It's my senior year which means it's my last year at the hellhole everyone calls a school. I can't help but smile when I think about finally getting out of this shit hole town and going somewhere I want to be. But I need to graduate first so I pull myself out of bed to get ready for a day that I'm sure will be no different then the past three years have been.
I strip off my fuzzy Batman pants and long sleeve Batman sleep shirt to put on a fresh pair of panties and bra, then to actually get ready for school. Sadly my school has uniforms, it's because I go to a private school for the intellectually gifted, so I don't get to wear what I want. But the slacks and dress shirts that they make us wear aren't too bad once you get used to them. Once dressed I run a comb through my hair, brush my teeth, put on some deodorant, then I'm on my way. My mom likes to keep my school bag next to the front door so it's easier to grab and I'm less likely to forget it.
On my way out I half expect to see my mom sitting at the dining room table eating breakfast with a homemade lunch for me waiting to be stuffed in my bag and ate later. But that hasn't happened since my dad left. It's been ten years since my dad walked out but my mom still hasn't quite recovered. Shes working but that's about all she does anymore. I can't remember the last time I had a real conversation with her. A sad smile plays on my lips as I grab my bag and walk out the door.
My school is just a couple blocks away so I walk to school. I don't see the need in driving when I can walk there just fine. But that doesn't keep others from hating on me for walking.
During my walk I put in my headphone to drown out the world around me. Because my music was so loud I didn't hear the car coming up behind me which means I also didn't know to move to avoid being drenched in puddle water. It had apparently rained last night which left many puddles seeing as the city roads are mostly potholes. It's no school to me that this happened sadly. Everyday on my way to school something happens to make me late or to just plain ruin my day. And no matter what this will never be the worst thing to happen today.
