luke hemmings was what you could call "stupid," in its purest essence. he knew nothing about anything, and he exercised no effort whatsoever to gain any knowledge. he was dumb, ignorant, and in all honesty, a clueless fuck.
ironically, luke was also the most talkative kid at new rochelle high school. he talked almost every five seconds, saying anything that came to his mind. and considering his stupidity, most of the things he said made absolutely no sense.
emilee, on the other hand, was extremely intelligent. she knew too much about everything, and spent nearly every moment of her life either crying or learning more.
as you could have guessed, emilee never talked. ever. she talked solely when she needed something from her mother. which was a rare occasion on its own. emilee was a solitary person. she enjoyed being alone. the teachers at nrhs had learned to never call on her. she never presented her projects, but she got 100s anyway because she was incredulously smart.
so when luke and emilee's english teacher, mr. miller, assigned the two to be partners for a project, they couldn't have been more frustrated.
"mr. miller, how am I supposed to work with emilee johnson? she's never spoken a word in her life!" luke complained to his teacher after class.
"luke, i understand that working with ms. johnson will be a challenge. but sometimes in the real world, you have-" luke interrupts his teacher.
"yeah, yeah. i have to 'work with people i dont get along with,' but its not even that i don't get along with her. she literally DOESNT TALK." luke felt himself getting frustrated with the teacher.
"im sorry luke" mr. miller picked up his bag and car keys, and walked towards the door. "have a good weekend" he said as luke follows him out the door.
"yeah, whatever" luke rolled his eyes and walked out of the school
