"yes" she said again, louder this time. her voice was a silver melody, like the church bells of renaissance europe. she smiled at the unfamiliar and serendipitous turn of events. her voice changed her seemingly unchangable monotonous mood to an upbeat one. emilee made a mental note to start talking more.

luke, on the other hand, was losing his shit. emilee, the girl that he may have began growing feelings for, had just spoke to him. for the first time. he felt like a pre-teen girl for freaking out over such a small event but he knew that it must have taken a lot for emilee to finally say something. she must have been thinking about it so hard and just ended up forcing herself to say something. or maybe, she was just deep in thought. luke wasnt exactly sure, but he was sure of one thing- that emilee had just spoken to him. that meant something, right? emilee never talked to anyone, not even her teachers or parents. her voice had always seemed like an enigma, something that luke must always strive for, yet, never attain.

yet, he found himself sitting on the concrete in front of the enigma itself, which had been fully attained. luke wondered what was spinning through emilee's head at the moment; fear, relief, surprise? was she even thinking? maybe she wasnt even thinking about anything, luke thought. maybe she was just thinking about the rain, or the concrete. he looked up to see emilee smiling bigger than usual, causing his heartbeat to rapidly increase.

"why are you so happy?" luke said, breaking the silence. emilee shrugged, realizing immediately after that she could talk.

"i... dont.... know?" emilee said quietly, unsure of herself. lukes eyes brightened in joy and emilee's heart warmed, knowing that she could make someone happy with her voice.

"your voice, its so," luke tried to find a word that that could accurately describe it

"ugly?" emilee said worriedly, locking up in fear and anxiety.

"no, no, no! definetely not." luke smiled hugely and emilee giggled. there they were, in the middle of a high school parking lot, sat on the concrete, laughing and giggling at each other for no reason.

emilee loved it.
