I Have A Conversation With A Horse

"So do you have any means of transportation, Hermes?" Leo asked

"Well, sort of." we looked at him questioningly. Then he whistled. I heard a voice in my head. How's it going boss?

"Blackjack! Hey buddy! How many times do I have to tell you? Don't call me boss!" Percy said as they landed. They were pegasi. 4 of them. The one called Blackjack was a black stallion with black wings and a proud face, I observed.

Then I realized, "Hey, I understand that I can hear sea creatures, but why horses?"

"Poseidon invented horses. So children of Poseidon can understand horses and sea creatures."

Oh yeah. Who's the chic?

"That's my sister. So you have to treat her like you do me. And you tell that to your buddies. 'Right?"

Alright fine.

"So, are you here to take us to camp?"

Um, that's the catch. He said awkwardly.

"What catch?"

You see, pegasi can only travel for so long before we start moulting our feathers on our wings. You know that. And we've never traveled further than Maine. And that's as far as we go. So that's 2 states. So we'll drop you off in Charlotte, North Carolina. You'll order us a couple dozen doughnuts there and we'll stay there 'till our wings heal. But seeing that you don't have much time before your deadline, I'd say you'd better go on without us. You'll be safer if you travel without us. Less chance of Zeus attacking you.

Percy exhaled and pushed his bangs back in frustration. He obviously didn't like the idea of walking from North Carolina all the way to Long Island! And neither did I! "Do you at least have any human money for us? We only have golden drachmas and we need those for Iris-messaging."

"Yes, yes. Don't get your feathers all ruffled up." Hermes joked impatiently, "We have money for you. After the pegasi drop you off in Charlotte, I have enough money for you to get to Williamsburg. That puts you at about the halfway point. Oh! That reminds me! I have a gift for you, Percy!" He reached in has bag and pulled out a pair of red converse. They looked normal at first. But then I got a better look at them. They had white wings that blended in with the white stripes on the sides. "Now, I know that you have had very bad memories with these shoes. But these are not the same shoes. I have many pairs of these shoes. The ones that you uesd were, as your remember, cursed. Luke..." he said that name as if it greatly pained him, "...cursed them and they were supposed to take you down to Tartarus. But I made these especially for you. So you do not need to worry."

"I don't know." he said half-jokingly. "You tried to kill Annabeth and I back on Olympus 2 years ago."

"I know! I'm really sorry about that! That... that was not me. My anger and sadness overcame me and in the process, I nearly killed someone who saved my son." He had a sad, yet heroic look in his eyes. "But, let us not dwell in the past. Luke is in the Elysium and he is along side your friend Nico di Angelo. For giving my son that heroic end to his life, I am eternally grateful to you. And now, as a small token of my appreciation, I honor you with giving you my winged sandals"

"I don't know what to say! Thank you!"

"You are very welcome!" he smiled "Now, you don't have to feel pressured to keep them for yourself. So you may want to pass them on to someone else. I would not be offended."

"Well, I'm content with Riptide, Annabeth is fine with her dagger, I'm sure, and Leo has his fire and his toolbelt. So I think the shoes should go to Penny."
