She lied there on the hospital bed, bandaged from head to toe, breathing in oxygen as it was her only choice. It was by God's grace and miracle that she survived the internal bleeding as a result of the excessive kick.

But it seemed like evil was still lurking around in its active mode. There he stood, by the glass window in his black leathered hoodie, glaring down at his sleeping victim. He muttered a curse as he heard each breath she took.

He wished he could just end it all. He wasn't going to relent until he achieves his deadly, ultimate goal.
He jumps quietly down the storey building then into the elevator that led to his victim's private ward and disconnected the wires.

After a satisfactory job, he went back to the window of the room Aleesha was hospitalised and expertly opened the windows without making a noise. He jumped in and landed quietly on the floor.

Walking up to her where she laid defenselessly.  He took out his tiny but sharp pocket knife and thought of numerous ways to deal with her. He raised his two hands to stab her on the forehead but something stopped him.

"Why not give her a slow, painful death?" A voice played in his head and his face held a cruel, menacing smirk.

He looked down at the numerous drips passed to her body and began to cut them one by one, taking his time. Aleesha stirred uncomfortably in her sleep but didn't open her eyes. He smirked mischievously.

"Let's see how you take this." He said effortlessly and yanked off the oxygen mask from her nose. In no time, his poor victim was gasping for air. He stood there watching her pain. It gave him joy and pleasure.

Just then, he heard a voice and that was his saving grace. He put back the oxygen but disconnected it directly from the source so that it won't get discovered quickly.

He looked down at the helpless girl again and whispered "I'll be back." before jumping out the window and closing it.

After some minutes, a nurse in a blue shirt and trousers came in with a tray of medicine and injection. She smiled at her patient and dropped the tray beside her. She stared at Aleesha for a while and noticed something was amiss. Her breathing wasn't easy nor steady.

She rushed to the bedside and checked the oxygen. That was when she found out it has been removed. She fixed it back immediately and checked her drips. She was shocked to see almost all the drips cut off. Something wasn't right. She quickly called the doctors on duty and explained what she saw.

One of them called Nuhrain and Siddique while another called the police. Nuhrain and Siddique were shocked to hear this. They looked baffled and unsettled. Someone was trying to kill their sister after all but who could it be.

He watched them from his hiding place. It was fun to see them all in distress. He smirked and diverted his gaze to the nurse who was oblivious of the monster's intense gaze. His smirk deepens disturbingly.

The police got to the hospital and everything was explained to them. They started investigating immediately. They took with them some evidence to see if they could get any fingerprints and the DNA of the criminal.

Nuhrain followed them to the station to file a report and see to some other things but before leaving he told Siddique to keep it a secret. They both agreed not to inform their parents about it especially their mother.

Apparently, it's not the right time to add to their worry and raise their blood pressure. Siddique stayed with her sister holding onto her hand while resting on her leg. A tear slid down his face. He was confused and scared for his sister.

Why does she have to go through all this? Who is behind it? Why is the person pursuing her even when she's helpless? What has done wrong to deserve this? A lot of questions were running wild in his mind. He wished he could get answers to them as soon as possible. No matter what, he vowed to get to the root of everything.

"I promise you, Aleesha, I will get to the root of it all by hook or by crook. No matter what I encounter, I will do it for you. I promise you." He whispered into her ears before resting his head back on her legs.

At the police station, they were not able to get neither the fingerprints nor the DNA of the perpetrator. The police continued to further their investigation.  They also asked Nuhrain some questions. They asked who he suspects might be behind the attack but he couldn't think of any.

The police told him to come back the next day for further questioning. He left the inspector's office quite late in the night. He was reluctant to leave at first but the inspector assured him of Aleesha's safety since he had sent six of his men to guard and patrol the hospital as well as its neighbourhood.

He walked out of the station a bit relieved descending the stairs when he got a text from their father if he could come to pick him up at the airport. He texted him back saying he would be there soon and hurried towards his car.

The demon watched him from afar smoking his pipe. His physic and hoodie blended with the colour of the night which made him almost invisible. He watched as Nuhrain hoped into the car and drove off.

He stood up abruptly.  "Time to get into action." He said in a croaky voice and draw his hoodie back on his head. Within a blink of an eye, he was gone. Into the deep, night.

*******
Nuhrain finally got to the airport. There was traffic on his way to pick up his father so while coming back, his father suggested that they pass the lone road of the premier hotel. It was risky to pass such a place, especially at night. One is not totally safe, not even in broad daylight.

The roads in Ibadan were not always bugged with traffic but Mr Kelani was in a hurry to see his daughter so he suggested they pass the way leading to the dreaded, lone way to the premier hotel.

It was a smooth ride. No traffic nor potholes have posed as death traps for most drivers in Nigeria. They were silently enjoying the smooth ride while going at normal speed until the unexpected thing happened.

Clash!

"Nuhrain! Nuhrain!! Nuhrain!!! Look at me. Answer me, son. Open your eyes and look at me!!!"

That! That was the agonizing scream of a father...

The devil lurked around in the thick bushes for a while hoping that no car stops by them to render any assistance. His prayers were answered.  The cars just kept passing by.

Not a single one stopped for the fear of stopping on the highway. The stories that have been heard is scary enough to turn even the purest, selfless Samaritan into a cold-hearted, unsympathetic fellow on that highway.

Pain and sorrow have been replaced with happiness and peace. Bodies have been violated. Blood has been shed. Lives have been taken.

What next...
