Prologue

All By Myself

  For the past six years it's only been Gina and her mom. Gina and her dad don't really have a relationship. She hasn't seen or spoken to him since he walked out on her and her mom when she was nine.

Gina for the first few years tried looking him up, and didn't find anything. Until she did.

But, Gina didn't really like what she found and how it made her feel. So, she didn't do any more probing.

It's been tough to say the least, especially for Gina's mom. But Gina's mom wouldn't have it any other way, and neither would she.

Before moving to Salt Lake Gina's social life was mostly... nonexistent.

With her mom working for F.E.M.A. and having to move around a lot, it was hard on the relationships she'd developed while at different schools.

At first she tried to make friends.... and she did. However then she would move and she tried to keep in touch with the friends she had made- she really did.

But eventually they would end up talking to them less and less, until they just didn't talk anymore. And if they did the most would be some generic conversation, or a like and commenting under an instagram post.

Gina was never angry or even disappointed those friendships fell off, because it's hard to maintain a relationship with someone who's all the way across the country. Especially in middle school, and high school, though it did make her feel lonely sometimes.

Soon Gina figured out after the second or third school that it's better if she just goes to school, does what she needs to do— while minding her business and keeping her head down in the process —and goes home.

Sure it was lonely.

But it was her safety guard. And by using this "method" it saved Gina from a lot of heartache. And was working.... until East High.

Gina was expecting East High to be just like every other school. But it wasn't.

That's not to say she didn't have a rocky start. Gina Porter is probably one of the most passionate people you'll ever meet, she's very confident in both herself and her abilities as dancer and actor.

Which is often misinterpreted and misunderstood. Gina is definitely more than what meets the eye. But, it took a while for the students at East High to see below the surface. Her last few weeks at East High she's been able to connect more with people.

Ever since the homecoming dance Gina had become especially close with Ashlyn and Ricky. They were the first ones to see a side to Gina many others weren't really privy to.

Gina was skeptical of Ashlyn at First. She wasn't really used to people, especially girls, being kind to her without some type of ulterior motive.

She soon found out that Ashlyn is just literally the best.

Gina had also really been cherishing her and Ricky's relationship.

Truth be told, Gina and Ricky's have always had a "spark" or a connection so to say between them from the beginning. From the first time they met at theater rehearsal; they just clicked.

They did have a little scuffle at the homecoming dance when Ricky was kind of a jerk to Gina, but he apologized and they got past it. In fact they've become super close. Like extremely close.

They were friends, nothing more though.

But with the night of homecoming and them having a heart to heart and opening up to each other.... and Gina giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Let's just say that was definitely a night to remember for the both of them.

So to say the least Gina's life at East High has become pretty easygoing. Her and Nini have come to a truce and decided to put all the petty things they did to each other in the past, and be friends.

Even her and Ej are cool. After he apologized for being an asshole at homecoming, Gina said sorry for dumping a cup of juice on him. At first it was still a little weird between them, but once they got over the awkward stage they both realized how cool the other person was and how much they actually had in common. Gina has finally been able to feel at home at East High and in Salt Lake.

She's on cloud nine.

But the only thing is, good things that happen in Gina's life never stay good for long.
