"..Anyone want some hot cocoa?" George smacked his lips together and opened the door for them, motioning to the hallway. Sapnap nodded vigorously and darted in, leaving Dream on the guest bedroom's porch."Uh.. yeah, I'll catch up with you in a second. I just need some fresh air." George stood for a moment. His eyes wandered over Dream's face, searching for something. What it was? Dream didn't know. He doubted George did either from the confusion in his eyes.
"..Oh-kayyyy.." George nodded and slipped outside of the guest room, letting the door follow him with a swift click.
A sigh escaped the blonde's lips as he turned around and leaned over the wooden railing of the old porch. A soft-looking, dry chair sat next to him, but he didn't want to sit. He'd been sitting on the bed for hours now, silently picking at his nails as he ignored the growing tightness in his throat- instead pushing his focus onto the boys who were playing Minecraft beside him.
Yesterday he'd run out of nicotine patches- and he was to scared to ask George where the nearest store was to grab some due to guests, and the fact that George didn't know he smoked. His hands slid into his hoodie pocket where he fiddled with a lighter. Just one couldn't hurt, one to stop the cravings until he could slip away, and grab more patches.
His grip tightened on the lighter as he shook his head to himself. With that he pushed off away from the railing with his arms, darting inside and flopping down onto the bed. His mind argued with itself as he laid silently.
'It'll be just one, you've done this before haven't you?'
'Yeah- but Sapnap help me quit like... three months ago!'
'What if George smells it? What if Sap finds out? Oh god they'll be pissed.'
'Ok? They don't get a say in your health, fuck 'em!'
'As appealing as those offers are, no.'
Dream groaned loudly and flipped over onto his back, rubbing his eyes and sitting up. He slid the glass door closed and closed the blinds as well, shuffling through his suitcase on the desk angrily. He froze when his hands brushed over a cold cardboard that lay in between two folded hoodies. He picked it up and examined it, thoughts swirling. The box was subsequently tossed into a small metal garbage bin under the desk, which the blonde shoved under the bed.
"I can do this." He whispered to himself as he took a few deep breaths. A gentle knock at the door snapped him awake from his thoughts. "Come in, Sap." The door was opened to reveal the texan, standing wide eyed in shock.
"How'd you know it was me?!" Dream nervously chuckled and put his hands in his hoodie pockets, leaning forward and bouncing on his heels.
"Uh- I mean like... I don't really know? I guess I just remember the sounds of people's footsteps and.. like knocking patterns I guess?" Sapnap stared blankly for a second before nodding.
"Valid, ok." He slipped past the blonde and into the room, flopping down onto the fluffy blanket and sighing. "It's like... 8pm and he's still not back." Dream cocked his head slightly.
"Yeah.. I mean I'm obviously worried since he like.. left yesterday for the office- but George doesn't seem to be worrying..?"
"...I'd like to count that as a tally." Sapnap mumbled incredulously. Dream thought for a moment.
"Are you sure? Isn't that your second tally?"
"Yeah, and?"
"I mean.." Dream leaned against the open door, swinging his hips from side to side against the door to make it swing with him. "Well... wouldn't you want to save them for harder pieces of evidence?"
