Chapter 7, Assistance

Chapter 7

"Work?" you ask, wishing he didn't have to leave so soon.

"Yeah" he confirms, but then says "hey, do you wanna come with me?"

"What? No... I can't. I-Im not a hero!" the thought of it startles you; you quit being a hero a long time ago, so you're unsure what people might think of you. I can't just go and save someone and start calling myself a hero again, and what if I fail, I would be a complete disappointment, you think. Denki can see that you're lost in your anxious thoughts so he reassures you "C'mon, it'll be fun!". His precious smile makes you feel confident and powerful, and you realise that even if you fail, he will be there with you. Everything is worth it when you're with him.

He reached his arm over the table as if to say, 'do it, what do you have to lose', and stared you in the eye with a look of determination and a trustworthy smile which displays his fang-like teeth. "Fine" you agree to this invitation and shake his hand, feeling intimate with him once again, just like that special rainy day back at UA.

Once you're there at the scene of the incident, you see Mt Lady standing there attending to the bandages of an injured civilian. "Hey Chargebolt, thank god you're here" she didn't even ask who you are or why you're here, she just started informing Denki on the situation. She looks so busy and concentrated that it seems like she doesn't even realise that you're there.

"A nomu was here 5 minutes ago, it tore off a man's arm, and threw a car with 3 people in it" she pointed to the upside down, bloody truck on the sidewalk. You and Denki exchange a quick glance at each other with a concerned look on your faces "Holy shit, is everyone ok?" he exclaimed.

"Yeah more or less, a couple casualties but nobody's dead at least" she finishes wrapping the bandage around the victim's leg and wipes the blood off of her arm. When she turns around, she finally acknowledges your presence by looking at you; she doesn't question you though, she just carries on with her duties.

Without warning, Mt Lady grows a few metres, until she's the height of a giant. You forgot that was her quirk, so it startles you for a second. "It's behind that building" she shouts down at you, "It shouldn't take too long to find it. You two are the only heros around, so you better go take it down now before things get out of control" She shrinks back to her normal size before asking you "Will you need backup?"

"Nah, we got this" Denki tells her with the kind of confidence that you have always admired. He turns to you to check if you're okay and you give him a little thumbs up so he doesn't worry. "Yeah, we got this" You say with a cool smile, starting to feel excited about your mission. You take his hand in yours and run to where Mt Lady pointed at. When you arrive, you have to stop to take in the horrific scene in front of you.

One tall building is now on the verge of falling apart with pieces of concrete haphazardly plummeting from broken windows. There is blood splattered on the side of a shed in an alleyway, and you don't even want to imagine where it came from. The nomu is floating there, synchrinously flapping its frigid wings and staring you in the eye, with a dumbfounded yet somehow intimidating look on its face, as if it just woke up in a bloody murder scene. You often ponder what nomus think and feel, as they are still part human, but now is not the time to sympathise - there are more important things to do.

You let go of Denki's hand, which you notice is getting progressively more sweaty, I guess even pro heros get scared, this isn't the kind of thing you can get used to, you think. "I'll go fix the building, try to stall the nomu" you order him.

"Got it" he confirms before he starts shooting his electrical charge at the monster and prepares to dodge it's attacks. You get reminded how strong and powerful he is, which only makes him even more attractive. The static lifts his bold yellow hair to stand up all spiky, and his whole body is radiating electricity and power, which is so captivating that you forget the situation at hand. Soon, you pull yourself together and get back to restoring the building; you can easily use your quirk to lift all the debris and search for anyone who is stuck, injured, or endangered.

"How you doing?" you hear a shout from outside on the street- Denki.

"Alright. I found 20 people but only 6 of them were injured. You?" You yell back from the dim basement of the building.

"It looks tired but I don't think it's gonna stop anytime soon" You rush up the stairs and look outside to see the nomu, drenched in blood from the tip of its fleshy wings to the bottom of its leg, which was already deformed in the first place.

 The smell when you walk back onto the street is a mix of burning flesh and sewage. The whole district is now in a blackout because something seemed to have happened to the electrical tower. Denki is panting heavily, though he still seems to be able to run and use his quirk just fine so you aren't too worried.

"Need any help?" You ask in a cocky manner, jogging over to your partner in crime. Using your quirk, you move the water from a busted sewage pipe in the alley to the nomu and make the water circle around it's head, slowly drowning it. The monster uses its claws to try and escape, flailing its arms around like a helpless puppy before walking out of the water and letting out a horrid screech. 

It then dives down to the ground and digs one of its claws into Denki's chest, you can see the blood splattering on his shirt as he groans from all the pain. "Ugh.." He falls down to his knees for a few seconds before planting his feet on the ground again and firing his electricity and this evil monster, looking stronger than ever. It shrieks once again and temporarily stops flying- its cursed, demonic body spiralling to the ground. Then it flaps its wings once more and continues flying, but more haphazardly, as if it knew it were about to die. You look at Denki, then he looks at you. "Up for another lighting tornado?" He asks. "For old times sake".
