"Zemo had this number written down in his notebook of things he hates." I close my eyes trying to remember the name written next to it. It started with a K... Ka something. "The name next to it was... Oh! It was Karli! I remember now! Zemo had her name written down with this number! When I asked him about it he explained that she was trying to become more powerful than me... She was trying to beat me. She must've been trying to get the serum!"
I see James smile out of the corner of my eye.
"Why would she want the serum though?" Sam asks, doubt filling his voice.
"She wanted to build an army." James replies blankly and just like that all of the pieces click together.
We came here to talk to Zemo because we figured he would know if Hydra was involved. He didn't know anything, but he must have gotten in contact with Karli and told her we were looking for the Flag Smashers. Maybe he wanted information from her, or maybe he was just trying to warn her. Either way, Karli wants to talk to us now.
"We have to talk to her." I whisper, more to myself than anyone else.
"Yea. We do." Sm replies. James looks over at Sam and furrows his brows.
"No. Sam this is your mission. Y/n and I are going back to the tower. You can go save the world without us." Sam rolls his eyes at James.
"James, I'm not giving up on this mission like that." I look over at him. "I'm sorry but I've already given my all to this mission, I might as well keep fighting for it."
James' eyes are screaming at me not to do this. He doesn't want me to get more hurt than I already am. "Fine." He spits the word out and then runs his hand through his hair. I know I'm stressing him out, but I'm just trying to do the right thing after being forced to do the wrong thing for so long.
