IT FELT STRANGE TO BE BACK IN NEW YORK, EVEN TEMPORARILY. Alex had begrudgingly followed behind Tony as they made their way up to the right floor of the apartment complex.

"Are you sure this is a good idea? He's still a child," Alex commented as they waited for the elevator.

"I'm ninety-nine per cent sure."

"Wonderful..."

No thanks to Tony's magical ability to talk his way into anything and anywhere, they got into the apartment they needed. May the woman was called and she had large framed glasses and soft brunette hair.

Alex and Tony made themselves comfortable, per her request and waited for Tony's recruit to get home. Soon enough, it happened.

"Hey, May!" A boy no older than fifteen entered the apartment, earphones secure and playing music. He set something down on the table and carried on moving through the apartment.

"Hey! How was school today?" she called back.

"Ah, it was okay. There's this crazy car parked outside..." He stopped talking when he reached the archway between the kitchen and living room. Alex and Tony greeted him with smiles and small waves.

"Oh, Mister Parker," Tony chirped and the boy became extremely flustered.

"Hey - what are you... I'm- I'm Peter."

"Tony. This is Alex."

"S'up," she nodded with a slight wave of her hand.

"What are you guys doing here?" Peter folded his arms across his chest awkwardly and Alex was silently grateful for Tony's improv skills.

"It's about time we met. You've been getting my emails, right?" he prompted with a wink and Peter seemed to catch on.

"Yeah - Yeah! Regarding the..."

"You didn't even tell me about the grant," May chimed in and that seemed to make everything click for the young recruit.

"The grant."

"The September Foundation. Remember when you applied?" Tony clarified.

"Yeah?"

"I approved, so now we're in business." Whilst his Aunt May bombarded him with questions, Alex couldn't stop checking her phone. Hoping, praying even, for a text or voicemail from Steve.

"- I just, I know how much you love surprises, so I thought I would let you know... Anyway, what did I apply for, again?"

"That's what we're here to hash out."

"Okay." Whilst Tony answered more questions from the two of them, Alex couldn't help but replay the last conversation they had in her head. She couldn't decide who to listen to. Who was right?

Did it really matter?

Of course, it matters.

"Can I have five minutes with him?"
