As I sat in the lavish, dark brown, genuine leather armchair of the soon to be home of my newborn child, a heavy, uncomfortable feeling made its way to my chest, flooding my senses and making my palm sweat and my fingers make their way to ruffle my slick black hair and tug at the rims of my expensive suit sleeves.
I looked around at the pink rose hued room I was in. Bright pastel blue butterflies painted the walls of the space Aurora and I designed ourselves. From the wooden columns lining all 4 corners of the large space, connecting at the center of the ceiling, where a beautiful bright crystal chandelier hung, to the sparkling, light colored curtains of the 3rd story bay window, with pink cushions and plush pillows lingering in the perfect spots to be able to show the infant the stars and the trees of the meadow that laid just outside her castle doors, to the bookshelf that sat opposite to the view of the world, where she would soon be read to by her loving parent as she drifted off to sleep, wood matching the rocking crib that I spent hours building just a few days ago along with the fairy lights that I hung up lining the entire room with gleam.
Yes everything was perfect and ready for my perfect little angel to enter the world.
With no help from Elian of course.
I guess being prince of the golden kingdom left him too busy to take care of the room his child would see when she first opened her heavenly little eyes. Not to mention his own wife Aurora, whom I was left to care for all by myself whist Elian went to and fro Midas to complete his "princely duties". Like he's the only one with a country, or I guess in my case, a realm to think of. I mean it's not like he's actually the ruler of the kingdom, if that were the case, I suppose I'd try to understand the obnoxious young royals complete negligence of his family and absence from the woman who loves him more than anything else in this world, but then again, I probably wouldn't waste my time trying to wrap my head around that dull man's train of thought. But no, he is just a meer mortal prince, standing beside his father King Elian, smiling at nobles and being treated like some ornament for his daddy to show and tell to the court. No rhyme or reason to be away other than the Midasan subjects seeing there trophy prince every once in a while.
Not that I minded looking after Rora. Her sweet voice and intoxicatingly ethereal smile never quite seemed to leave my memory for long. Saying I was in love would be an understatement. How could anyone resist her charming laugh, charismatic sense of humor and firey attitude? She could outshine the sun with her icy blonde locks, the soft and flowy waves resembling a calming ocean, and her Smooth porcelain skin contrasting with her rosy cheeks and pink lips, and my dad her eyes, I could get lost in her sparkling perrywinkle eyes, speckled with hints of ash and emerald that I could never seem to look away from.
Yes, though waking up at the break of dawn and running to the village bakery to get the princess of Midas fresh baked croissants every morning for breakfast was a bit of a hassle, it was something that I've learned to get used to. After all, they were her favorite and the only sustenance her poor body could keep down after gracing the world with her magnificent spirit. And of course it was rather difficult to tame her lioness nature when the pregnancy hormones kicked in at the slightest break of an issue, like for example, if the water in her bath was too hot she'd start throwing a fit saying how she might somehow boil her baby.
