12| Last Day Of Camp (pt 2)

"I still can't believe all that went wrong!" Brooklynn laughed, throwing her head back. She smiled, "Like that time we almost got eaten!" Yasmina began to chuckle, a smile forming on her face, and replied, "Which time? How was there more than one time!" Darius beamed and he picked up the purple carob juice box that he had pushed away earlier and began to speak. "Let's all raise our carob juice! A toast! To not getting eaten!" He brought his carob juice up into the air as we all copied, raising our (disgusting) carob juice. "To to getting eaten!" The rest of us chanted after Darius, huge grins covering our faces. Kenji, who had been slow to get his juice box, finished chanting after the rest of it, me sniggering as he tried to make it seem like it was done on purpose. 

They all began to drink the carob juice but like I had been thinking earlier, there was absolutely no way I am drinking this, especially since it was made out of carbs like the disgusting car bars Ben had given us. They all spat out the drink and had grossed-out expressions, proving my point. Brooklynn then got up from her seat and raised her carob juice saying, "To no more running away!" The rest of us, in turn, chanted after her, "To no more running away!" Then she, Darius, and Kenji awkwardly smiled at each other, wondering whether or not they should take any more sips of the horrible juice. Yasmina, rightfully, shook her head with a very 'don't do it look on her face. 

"Ben began to drink some more of his carob juice, seemingly pleased before he stood up, after sighing in pleasure and raised his carob juice box. "To the return of a low-level gnawing dread rather than an all-encompassing impending doom! I was kinda shocked at this. I never knew he was that smart. I smiled at him and raised my carob juice box and chanted after him while the others stayed quiet for a few seconds, unsure of what to say. "To what Ben said!" Darius awkwardly said, raising his carob juice.

"Bad doom versus normal doom!" Kenji chanted in a lame attempt at repeating what Ben had said. Sammy jumped up from her seat eagerly and raised her carob juice saying, "Ooh, I got one!" before the monorail shook, causing us to shake around, and an explosion is heard from somewhere. 

"That sounded like an explosion," Yasmina quietly told us, looking out of the window beside her seat and trying to find whatever this was. I nodded and said, "Yeah, a big one at that." Brooklynn made a sound similar to a growl and said "Ugh! Not again!" Kenji, who had his face pressed against the glass, told us, "I don't see anything." The rest of us copied him and looked out the window, trying to see what caused such a large explosion. Sadly, I couldn't see anything ad I guess the others didn't either.

Darius was staring out the window with an anxious look on his face, but as he turned to face us, he seemed a bit more calm. "I don't think it was near us. We're ok. We're still ok," He tried to reassure us. "Are you sure, the explosion we heard sounded pretty bad,? I asked him, frowning. "Yeah, I'm sure..." He replied quieter, turning back to stare out of the window, still searching for the thing that caused the explosion.

For a few moments, we were all immersed in silence untilSamy, with a determined look on her face stood up and started speaking to us. "I know camp isn't what we thought it was going to be, but after everything we went through, at least we're leaving this place with six new friends!" She raised her carob juice and smiled at us all, "To the seven of us being best friends for life! Clink!" She eagerly waited for us to repeat after her, just like we had for Darius, Brooklynn, and Ben, but we all stayed silent. I honestly wanted us to be friends, but apart from Darius and maybe Brooklynn, I don't see how we would still stay friends after we have left.

In a failed attempt to make all of this less awkward, Darius read off some information from the carob juice box, "no added sugars, wow." I mentally face-palmed myself and sho my head. I looked at Sammy who had a deep frown on her face, then she started speaking again, sounding confused. "Guys? Hello? Wait, do you guys not see us as friends?"
