Chapter 22
"What is it Ethan," I said in a pleading voice. I hadn't gotten a good night sleep since I left the hospital and that was almost three months ago. Here it was 3am and Ethan wouldn't stop crying. I'd tried feeding, changing, everything I could think of. I knew once I did calm him down Evan would take his turn and start crying. I stood up and started walking in circles. I didn't want to leave the nursery it may wake someone else up.
If my kids weren't enough to worry about, I was ducking Ben. I'd said two months, but I'd been stalling since then trying not to spend the week with him in LA. He stayed in town for a few weeks after the boys were born, but then had to return to LA. Now he was calling once a week trying to talk to me. I keep telling everyone to tell him that I'm not home or busy with something else. It was getting tiresome for everyone and Sienna was especially irritated. I hadn't confided in anyone that I thought I was falling in love with him again. It was just something I knew I had to avoid.
"Why don't you let me take him?" I looked up to see Ramsey standing in the door.
"Go back to sleep," I said.
"No way," he said. "You go to sleep. You look so run down all the time now."
"Thanks," I said sarcastically. He just smiled and took Ethan from my arms. He took a blanket from the crib and wrapped him.
"I'll be back before you know it," he said.
"Where are you going?"
"Ethan and I are going to have a little talk about keeping you up all night," I smiled and rolled my eyes.
"You going to drive him around for me?" he nodded.
"Are you sure you want to do that? I could go..."
"I want you to take Evan to your room, crawl into bed and don't move," he ordered.
"I'll sit down in the rocking chair and wait for him to wake up," I said. "They are on opposite schedules."
"Then wrap him and I'll take him with me. You can't keep going on like this, burning the candle at both ends. It's not healthy for you and the kids are the ones that are going to suffer. Well so will we, you are pretty damn cranky when you don't get any rest."
"This is my..."
"We are family so it's okay if you need help for you to ask. If you don't ask I'll help anyway."
"Whatever," I said leaning back in the rocking chair.
"Go get in the bed," I nodded and watched him leave. Before I knew it was being woken up by a loud noise coming from outside. I jumped up and ran down stairs. I could hear my father yelling, he was using big lawyer words so I knew whatever was happening was bad, probably really bad.
"Dad," I yelled coming up behind him.
"Eve!" I stopped dead at the sound knowing it was Ben on the other side of the door.
"Look Mr. Carran if you don't get your people off my property in the next ten minutes I'll call the police," I knew he was serious.
"Daddy what..."
"Go back upstairs Eve!" my father commanded.
"Eve," Ben yelled again.
"What the hell is going on?" I asked frustrated.
"I'll handle this baby girl, just go back and get some rest," he said turning to look at me. The moment he did Ben rushed into the door pushing it the rest of the way open and causing my father to stumble back.
