Lilli scrolled down on Instagram. She could see a lot of pride art as it was June, and knew that if she could, her best friend would be joining in. Kira, her best friend, loved drawing pride animals. Lilli was sat in the kitchen of her house.
She scrolled through more LGBTQIA+ Pride Month art and found some really interesting ones. Lilli made a mental note to send some of them to Kira, or at least show them to her when they next met up. Lilli looked up and saw the disregarded drawing in the floor. She started it a bit before her birthday this year. Now, it was nearly the end of half term.
The drawing was of her cat, rusty. The lines were all done and it was half shaded.Not feeling the energy to simply pick up a pencil and continue, Lilli ignored it and looked back at her phone. A picture of some anime pride art was glowing up at her from the screen. She scrolled down through the comments and furrowed her brow at what she saw.
'Pride month doesn't exist. More like Hell month.' Read one. 'God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. The LGBT+ community is a wasted space for the insecure and unwanted idiots.' Read another. Lilli scowled and typed up quick retaliations that let the writers know she had seen - and disapproved. Then simply closed down the app and put her phone down on her bedside table.
Lilli could not believe some of the horrible comments that she had read. The fact that people were using religion as justification was sick, especially because there was nothing in religion that actually straight up says 'you can't be gay etc'. People were denying people basic human rights because of their gender and relationships. For a moment, Lilli didn't even want to use the media again.
BEEP!
The notification alert went off on her phone. Odd. Her mum was at home and she had already messages her dad a couple of minutes ago and he was going to the beach for a few days.
Lilli opened her phone, hoping against logic that it was who she wanted it to be.
