  • Dedicated to My Mum :) xx

For the past year I had been going through life in slow motion. Everything I did seemed to take twice as long. From walking to school to simply brushing my teeth.

But on that one morning I was determined to change that. Something inside me seemed to make me want to live today differently.

I walked downstairs to find my mum sitting at the kitchen table with an expressionless look on her face, her eyes fixed on her morning coffee.

"Hey Mum." I looked over at her and smiled. She looked up and wrapped her shaky hand around her mug. She seemed slightly surprised to see me smile but gave a small smile back.

"Morning sweetie...Are you okay?" She still looked shocked.

"Yeah, I'm fine mum. How about you? You had any breakfast? Want me to make you some?" I may have been going a little over the top but I was thinking that if I acted positive and thought positive, then maybe today would be positive for me.

Mum stared at me as I waited for her answer. The momentary pause was becoming a little awkward. At last she spoke. "Who are you and what have you done with my unhappy, mourning son?" She laughed briefly at her own words.

"I don't know. Let's just hope I can cook now. Fried eggs and bacon?" I knew that my mum loved to have this for breakfast. The eggs cooked to perfection and the bacon crispy but not quite burnt to a crisp.

"Aww darling!" She stood up from her seat and hugged me tightly. I could hear her cry softly into my ear. "All I've ever wanted since it happened was for you to be back to yourself. Your imperfect yet extremely adorable self." She was grinning, her eyes red with what I knew now to be tears of happiness.

Smiling, I began to make breakfast for my mum. I never had a lot for breakfast. Only a small handful of cereal to take with me. Already today was looking good. And in my gut I had a feeling it was only going to get better.
