Six days.

It had been six days since that baby had gone missing.

Voight wasn't kidding when he said that we weren't going to rest until Zachary was found. I had gotten maybe twelve hours of sleep in the past week. And nobody else in intelligence had gotten any more than me. Except Erin. She went home sick yesterday for a while but insisted that she was fine three hours later and returned, despite Voight's demands to go home and sleep away her sickness.

When Ruzek said that Muiser and Grahn weren't careful, that was an awful assumption, because it has been nearly a week and we still haven't found the missing infant. Everyone was miserable from lack of sleep and the Krudars were restless. I don't know if either of them has been to work since Zachary went missing. I don't know if either has even slept.

It was currently eleven o'clock at night and everyone was still at the district. Voight was walking around with his Mac in hand, trying to contact one of his CI's. Antonio was away trying to get some answers from a CI that apparently had something and Olinsky and Adam were wrapped up in Rachel's mental health records. Atwater and Mouse were working on tracking Austin's cell phone, because his hadn't been left behind. Rachel had taken hers with them on their run from the police, however.

Erin and I were going through the computer that Rachel and Austin kept at their apartment. Mouse was able to crack the code in no more than ten seconds. We'd been going through documents, photographs, search history, everything. There was nothing.

I think we definitely underestimated the insane couple who decided to go out and just take a baby from his bedroom.

"Has anyone talked to anyone other than Rachel's mom since she the baby first went missing?" Voight asked. He looked around at his sleepy detectives, searching for an answer.

"Not so much. There's literally nothing, sarge. There aren't any other people that we can get ahold that might know Rachel or Austin, no evidence that suggests where they went. No nothing." Antonio pitched in.

Our sergeant thought for a few moments before speaking up. "Go home. All of you. I'm sorry for pushing you into a week's OT but we need to find this baby. So go home and rest. Be here by noon tomorrow, please. Tomorrow is our day. This kid is coming home within the next twenty four hours." With that, he walked into his office and shut the door.

Everyone stood there, shocked that Voight had just voluntarily sent his detectives home in the middle of a case.

"Well then." Dawson picked his jacket and wallet and headed out the door.

Ruzek did the same after calling Kim, asking her if she was ready to head to their apartment. Olinsky was in Voight's office chatting with him. Atwater and Nadia were talking over by her desk and Mouse was packing up.

I looked at Lindsay for a second, only to find that she was already looking in my direction. Normally, this would be the part where Erin and I would get into our seperate cars with the same destination in mind. Whether it was her house or mine, we were usually together after shift.

Except when Erin's daddy figure finds out that she's seeing her partner. Those are entirely new circumstances.

We didn't lose eye contact for quite a while before I blinked and looked away. I couldn't stand this.

We had only broken up a week ago-six days, three hours and seven minutes to be exact-but it felt like just minutes ago.

All of the sudden, I couldn't focus. Both Erin and I refused to break the eye contact.

I didn't know what was going on. For the first couple of days after we had ended things, I wondered if there truly was anything between us. If she had feelings for me, why did she voluntarily end things? Why were we over? Was her position on this intelligence team truly more important than our relationship? Apparently so. She is obviously capable of moving on, because it doesn't look to be near as difficult for her as this end of our fling is for me.
