So we're travelling with space pirates. What could go wrong? Rose's mind raced. Though they all stood in the cabin, they could still hear a few voices from outside. They were muffled but you could still hear what they were saying, mostly.
Amelia's eyes twinkled yet she did not crack a smile as she passed the children and made her way to the doorway. "Our special guests have arrived." She stated and motioned for the three of them to follow her out the door. They did and Rose shielded her eyes again from the sun. She would go blind if she stayed out on deck for too long. As they walked up to the two figures that were talking to Mr. Arrow, Diana started to jump up and down when she saw the tall brunette boy. Rose saw him too, she was actually taller than him.
Obviously, I'm 18 and he's like, 12. Rose thought with a smirk. There was another person there. He looked like a dog, but was wearing a very large metal diving device. It was old and squeaky, the yellow paint was starting chip off and revealed the dirty red rust underneath. Amelia nodded to the two men with a stone faced expression. "Good day gentlemen, you must be Doctor Dobbler." She said. The dog man stared and stumbled over his words. Amelia knocked on his helmet and cupped her mouth as if it was a microphone. "Hello? Can you hear me?" Ben and Diana giggled while Rose stifled her laughter. The boy looked over at the three and his eyes scanned Rose suspiciously. Rose crossed her arms over his chest and had a smug feeling grow inside her. She wasn't 100% sure why she felt more dominant than this young boy, but it was most likely due to their age gap. Diana became shy at Jim's gaze and she hid behind Rose's leg. Rose rolled her eyes. She prayed that Diana wouldn't try to do anything stupid and advance on this teenage boy.
Amelia chatted with the two men before the dog man tried to say aloud that Jim had discovered something. Amelia quickly covered his mouth and scolded him. She gently pushed past the children and their older cousin before leading the two men and Mr. Arrow into her office. Rose stood still. She wasn't sure where to go, what to do, what she was allowed to do. She hadn't known Captain Amelia for more than 10 minutes and she was already afraid of upsetting the feline woman.
"Can we go in the crows nest?" Benjamin asked, pointing up high to the mast and the bucket that surrounded it. Rose shook her head. "You're not going anywhere's until we figure out what's going on." Diana pipped up. "I know what's going on~" She sang. Rose gave her a mean look. "Then how about we find somewheres where we can chat and you can explain what the heck is going on," then she added, "And what we should expect throughout this crazy movie."
Rose and the kids wandered around the ship before hesitantly strolling down below deck. They walked down a set of stairs that lead to an area with tables and benches. It was adorned with barrels and boxes in the corners. The barrels were fairly large and in one of them Rose could see small purple fruits pilled in it. They looked like plums but they were slightly longer and had the shape of a turnip almost. Diana pointed her small hand to a figure dancing around the kitchenette. It was a large round bellied man. He didn't look completely human, in fact his skin looked grey in the light. The man turned and spotted the three standing in the doorway. He had a piece of metal in his head, it was an eye.
A cyborg. Cool. Rose thought to herself. The man wiped his hand on a clothe and eyed the three suspiciously. Obviously everyone in this movie had trust issues. "Ahoy there." Rose said awkwardly. The man nodded with a gentle smile. "Sorry, we're not trying to interrupt. We're just looking for..." Rose stopped. She didn't really know what they were looking for. The man was studying them and then his face broke into a large smile. "You kids must be the little tots Cap'n was talking bout to Mr. Arrow!" He bellowed. He lifted his hand - which was made of metal as well as his right leg - for Rose to shake. She took it gently and shook the mans hand. "Uh, yeah. That's us." Rose pushed Benjamin forwards a little as he had been hiding again. "This is Benjamin," she did the same to Diana, "And this is Diana." She introduced. The man nodded to the kids. "Would you two tykes like a purp?" He said gesturing to the purple fruits in the barrels. Rose was hesitant since she didn't know what these things were - when she referred to them as fruits she had been doing guess work. The kids perked up from their shy state and raced to the barrel. The man chuckled and handed them each a fruit. He looked to Rose and tossed her a fruit. Rose eyed it before the man spoke up. "Y'ever had a purp?" He asked. Rose shook her head with a nervous smile. "Um, I've just never been a big fan of...purple foods..?" She said in a questioning tone. The man chuckled again. "Try it. These ones are good. And good for ya." He said before making his way back to the kitchenette. Rose watched as the two kids had found a seat at one of the tables and happily digging into the colourful food. She pushed aside her suspicions of poisonous food and bit into the fruit. It was juicy, the purple liquid spilled from her mouth and onto her chin. The taste was exactly as she had imagined - a mixture of plum and peach. It was slightly sour, the skin of the fruit being slightly tougher than the meat inside. Rose smiled at the sweetness. She loved peaches. She liked plums to.
New favourite fruit acquired. She thought.
Just then, the dog man's voice from before came from above them. Rose and the kids looked to the stairs and saw Jim and his companion in the suit being led by Mr. Arrow.
"I will not tolerate any bad mouthin' of the captain. She's one of the best captains in the galaxy." Mr. Arrow had just finished saying. Rose moved out of the way of the group and the man at the kitchen turned to meet the gaze of the three in the hall, just like with the kids.
"Mr. Silver." Mr. Arrow greeted. The cyborg - obviously adorning the name 'Silver' - chuckled and smiled brightly. "If I'd known you was coming I'd have tucked in me shirt!" He said and tucked in his apron to his pants. Rose sat down with the kids who seemed to ignore the scene. Rose didn't blame them, they could probably recite every word of this movie with how many times they had watched it. Rose watched in intently, taking in every word to see if she could find out any information about what would happen in this movie. The four men chatted and Mr. Arrow assigned Jim to help Mr. Silver in the 'galley'. Rose wasn't sure what that meant but Jim did. He rolled his eyes and scoffed. "What? Seriously?" Rose scoffed at how bratty and spoiled the boy sounded. Jim must've heard her and gave her a glare. She smiled at the boy and he just rolled his eyes again. She noticed Diana staring at the brunette.
"Come Doctor." Mr. Arrow said. He suddenly spotted the kids, somehow not noticing them before. He beckoned for them to follow as well. Rose wiped her mouth and stood to follow the rock man. The kids were close on her heels.
"Captain!" Mr. Arrow called to Amelia who stood above them all next to the steering wheel. "The children are here as you requested." He said and Amelia grinned. "Good. Come come kids. Let Aunt Amelia show you how a real ship works." She said and the kids clambered up the stairs to the woman. She stood perfectly still as the kids stood next to her. Rose was halfway up the stairs when she began shouting.
"Are we ready to raise this leaking tub?" Mr. Arrow smiled and saluted. "My pleasure, Captain."
