Once we finished the experiment, the bell rang and my first day was finally over. I rushed to clean up our station and leave as quickly as possible. Edge was leaning against the table with a huge smirk plastered across his face.
"So the lab report is going to write itself?"
"Damn! I totally forgot about that. Is there any way you can do it? I'm in a huge rush and I have tons to do."
"Are you serious?! I'll be up all night working on this. At least if we do it together, I wont be suffering alone."
"I thought you like working alone?"
"I do but if you're going to intrude, at least go all the way. We should've started on the lab report for the last our of class but we couldn't because... well you know..."
"My fit?"
"I would've said incident but yes."
"Fine! I need to pick up my little brother from school but come to my house in an hour and we can start working on it. I live in the only white house on Sydney Drive".
"I'll see you in a hour then." He swung his bag over his shoulder and strode out.

"Can you please come to parent's evening instead of Aunty Larissa? She's so embarrassing! She always tells my teachers that I need more homework! Who does that?! Please Rena! I'm begging you!" Sammy got down on his knees and grabbed the hem of my skirt.
"The only homework you ever have is spelling practise, so I agree with Larissa."
"This is so unfair!" Sammy shouted as he angrily went back to his colouring.
I stifled a laugh and continued making dinner when the door-bell rang.
"I'll get it", shouted Sammy.
He toddled over to the door and tiptoed to open it. He looked up at Edge's large frame and frowned.
"Who are you?"
Edge smiled. "I could ask you the same question little man. I'm here to see Serena?"
"Yeah she lives here." Sammy eyed him cautiously. "You can come in but I have my eyes on you."
Edge smiled and walked into the main hall.
"Hey Edge!" I called from another room, "walk straight through, I'm in the kitchen."
Edge looked around the room with a mix of fascination and awe. "You have a really nice house. I didn't know you were rich."
"Theres a lot that you don't know about me", I replied with a wink.
"Can I help with anything?"
"Uh... Yeah actually. Can you start making the salad? All the ingredients are on the counter but I've been so busy with the pizza toppings that I haven't been able to wash the lettuce for the salad."
"Why don't you just buy pizza?"
"Because I wanted a home-cooked meal and it was Sammy's turn to choose dinner. As expected from a six year old, he wanted pizza."
"I see. Okay so I'll wash the lettuce."
He walked over to the sink and started washing the lettuce.
"So you told me about your dad, but where's your mom?"
"That, my dear Edge is a conversation for another time. There is only so much that I'm willing to tell you on the first day."
He shrugged and continued washing the lettuce.
"So if your mom isn't here, who looks after you and Sammy?"
"My Aunt Larissa but she's out tonight. She has a date with some Italian guy. If I had known how interested she was in Italian, I would've made the pizza sooner."
Edge laughed and put the freshly washed lettuce in a bowl.
"Can we start on the lab report now?"
"Yeah okay, I'll just put this pizza in the oven and we can start"
After the pizza was put in the oven, we headed to the living room to start on the lab report.
We worked on the report the entire night. We only took a break to eat dinner and for me to put Sammy to bed but otherwise we were working on it for hours.
I yawned. "Are we nearly finished? It's 3am and I'm falling asleep."
"Not yet we still have to write the conclusion."
"Yeah... okay but i'm gonna shut my eyes while we do it k?"
I was basically sleep talking. I think Edge realised because he said "Okay I guess I can write the conclusion before class tomorrow. Let's get you up to bed."
As I was in no shape to walk up stairs, Edge threw me over his shoulder (sack of potatoes style) as if I was as light as his backpack, and carried me up the stairs.
"Edge," I whispered with my eyes closed, "sleep next to me tonight. I'm so lonely and it's too late for you to walk home." He nodded curtly and gently placed me on my bed.
"Wait, Edge", I mumbled. "I need pyjamas. They're in my top drawer" He complied and got a pair of mismatched pyjamas but when he turned around, I had already fallen asleep.
