Chapter two: The story of the spirit.
Mythica Moonglaze, a young blue and white snow leopard, sat in the half empty tellers den, looking over the chasm, remembering a legend that her grandmother had told her about it. She had inherited her grandmothers story telling skills, and they were in high demand up here in the cold of the Ridge. She decided that tonight, she would tell the tale, if asked to entertain. And, soon enough, the small group was asking for her usual tales. She obliged, and began the story. "My Grandmother told me a story, a story of the ridge. She said that long ago, when she was little, a leopard fell over the edge, and into the chasm, never to be seen again."
A voice cut up " Yeah I pushed them"
Mythica ignored that and continued" some say that he died. Others, that he survived, crazy at the bottom of the chasm, plotting revenge"
Again the voice cut in, and a grey, turquoise and white snow leopard, who was wearing a hood and some boots, and was about her age stepped out of a corner." He died. I pushed him. He went splat." He joked. A twinge of annoyance swept through Mythica. She continued, keeping the annoyance out of her voice though"Others say that his spirit is out there, waiting for revenge. Watch out, or... he might just.... get you!" She finished with a bow.
The grey snow leopard came over "Nah, I stomped on the spirit. I stomp on lots of spirits. I'm Razor Sharpclaw. You're Mythica the story teller. I must admit, I thought you'd be older. Why you're hardly older than me!"
" You must be very brave" Mythica snapped back.
"Huh?"
" Stomping on spirits. That would make them angry"
Mythica walked gracefully down to the small shop ledge, and sat starring into the abyss of the chasm. Razor followed.
" Do you think there's really anything down there?" He questioned, curios of her opinion. To him, it was just a story.
" Yeah, my brother" She joked.
" No I'm serious. Do you think that there's something down there?"
" I don't know..."
Mythica stood up and walked around on her front paws before hand springing onto a small ice ledge that hung off the rock over the chasm.
"I'm in the chasm!" She exclaimed, grinning. Two young Snow Leopards and a tiny black cat ( that shouldn't have been there) came down to see what she was doing.
" Ooh" they oohed.
Razor grinned. "Now you're the spirit" he laughed.
Mythica continued walking on her paws and hand-springing onto the ice, until Razor pretended to eat the tiny black cat, and they and they're friends ran away. Mythica sat down and stared into the chasm for a bit. The more she stared, the more it seemed like there was something moving down there, not quite at the bottom, but on a ledge. She stiffened.
"What's wrong?" Razor asked.
Mythica took a deep breath in before she spoke" I think," she started"That something is stirring in the chasm."
Razor jumped, and looked uneasy"Nah-It's just your imagination from the story."
But nevertheless, they still waked back up into the tellers den.
There was hardly anyone there now, and Razor said that he should probably be getting home, and though they could stay over night there, Mythica agreed that it was probably time that she left the Leopards ridge. When she got back, Mythica walked straight through her family's cave to her bedroom before sinking onto her comfy bed. Was there something in chasm? Or was it just her imagination like Razor had said? Either way, it was with unease that Mythica sank into sleep that night.
