FOURTEEN YEARS LATER
Brooklyn"Mom, have you seen my shoes?" Ivy called from the top of the stairs.
"They're in the coat closet down here, sweetheart. Your dad's gonna be home from work soon, and we gotta be ready when he gets here."
"Okay," she said, hurrying down the stairs. "Where's River?"
"Noah's mom is dropping him off in a few minutes. He stayed after school for student council."
"And Summer?"
"Your father picked her up from daycare. They'll be here in about fifteen minutes."
"Okay," Ivy said. "I'm sorry I'm so antsy, I'm just nervous."
"Come here," I said, giving my daughter a hug. "Your dad and I are so proud of you, no matter what. Your speech is going to be amazing. I can't wait to hear it tonight."
Ivy smiled as she pulled away from our hug. "Thank you, Mom."
"God, I can't believe my baby is graduating high school! And you're going to UCLA. I hope you expect visitors, because your father and I are gonna wanna see California."
Right on time, River walked through the door. I made sure we was dressed nicely for school this morning, so he wouldn't have to change when he got home. We were in a pinch to get to Ivy's graduation.
A few minutes later, Grayson walked in with our three year old in his arms. Summer was a surprise, but we love her so much. Ivy was fifteen when Summer was born, and River was eleven. Despite the age difference, Summer was one of the best things to happen to our family. Ivy and River love Summer so much, and none of us could imagine not having her around.
We all piled into the car, going to Ivy's graduation ceremony. River put his arm around me as I cried during Ivy's speech. Grayson was crying too, but he had Summer's comfort.
Our oldest daughter was Valedictorian of her graduating class, and we couldn't have been more proud of her.
Ivy was graduating, River was going to be in high school, and Summer was going to start pre-school in the fall.
Grayson and I are still very happily married. Our children make fun of us sometimes, but we fire back with the fact that they grew up in a very loving household.
Ethan and Kylie ended up with two children. Noah is their oldest, and he is a year younger than River. Their second child is Stella. She just turned five, and is best friends with mine and Grayson's daughter Summer.
It's strange to think that I ended up here in a happy, healthy and safe home with the best family I ever could've asked for.
This never would've happened if I didn't live in my car at seventeen.
