Chapter 3) Fleeing Time

Eon stood with his mouth open. He couldn't believe what he was seeing, was this man a terrorist? No that didn't make sense he thought, if the mans intention was to hurt others, he would've done whatever it was he did inside the building, besides it didn't make sense that a supposed killer would wear something that would attract attention. Being somewhat of a skeptic into the supernatural, Eon still couldn't help but wonder if this...man? was an alien, but what Eon saw before him had nothing in similar with how he believed an alien would look. Didn't science itself teach that if there were aliens somewhere out there in space, they wouldn't probably resemble humans? So who, or what could this person be?

Eon wanted to flee, to run and just forget what he saw, but his own curiosity got the better of him. Instead he stayed where he was, observing the man, if in fact it was a man, for Eon couldn't see the face, since it was covered in a white cowl. The "man" stepped forward, dusting himself in the process. Eon's heart gave a little jump as he started to realize the potential danger he was in, too late now to change his mind, he had no choice but to see what would happen to the end. He did vow though that if this person tried anything funny, Eon would give it his all to fight back, he wasn't planning on going down without a good fight.

As he was running scenarios in his head, the man had walked out of the crater, and was studying him intently. Eon could've sworn he saw a smile creep up into the face of the person as he turned his head, but before he could think much about it, the man spoke.

"You Eon?"

Not knowing wether he should be startled more by having the man talk to him, or by realizing he knew his name, Eon stared before gingerly replying.

"Umm yeah, I'm Eon, but who are you?"

The man broke out in a loud laugh, that seemed to make the very air shake. His voice was deep and gruff, but not unkind. It reminded Eon of old age, of a time where tranquility and serene calmness dominated life, a time when men weren't filled with the burdens of modern society.

" Ahh even after all these years, I can still recognize you." beamed the man, seeming oblivious to having ignored Eon's question.

Eon couldn't help but smile. This man, certain that he was a man now, despite that he still couldn't see his face, radiated a calmness that Eon hadn't experienced in a while, especially since moving here. Eon was about to reply, when in a blink of an eye, the man stood right beside him. Unnerved by the speed of the man, he yelped and tried to jump back, but the man's arm shot out from under his cloak and grabbed Eon's elbow in a vice like grip. Not trying to conceal his discomfort, Eon settled himself in a semi-defensive stance, and lashed out with his foot, planning to kick the man in the groin. His kick had started with all his strength behind it, but as it went up in a arc, Eon's foot started to slow down, his whole body felt heavy and slow. With a perplexed look on his face, he saw how the mysterious man easily stepped out of his range, all the while, Eon's foot continued it's slow arc. Wasting no time, the man went behind Eon, and grabbed him by the shoulders.

"We don't have any time to waste!" he hissed in Eon's ear.

It took all of Eon's willpower, and then some, to not cringe at the sudden change of mood in the man. Trying to think of a way out, Eon lifted his foot only as high as necesary, and stomped on the man's toes. The man had been distracted, and hadn't seen that coming, and although there wasn't much strength behind the attack, it was still good enough to make the man yelp with pain.

Finding his body released from whatever it was that had slowed him down, Eon spun on his heel and connected his left fist with the man's jaw. The man staggered backward rubbing his jaw, were a purple welt was already forming, all pretense of niceness gone.

"Foolish boy!" he growled, "can't you see I don't have time to"

Eon didn't give him a chance to finish, instead he charged, wanting to inmobilize the man as quickly as possible. Eon faked a right hook, but instead latched out once again with his foot, aiming for the man's chest. Barely moving away in time, the man ended up softening the blow with his right arm.

"That's it boy, playtime is over"

Eon stared in amazement as a white rod materialized in the man's hands. It resembled a scepter except that it looked like it could be used to maim or even kill as easily as for show. Sweat dripping from his face, Eon spun around and started to run away.

"When in doubt, get the hell out!" he thought to himself, the ghost of a smile creeping onto his face.

Behind him, he heard the man snarl and curse, and begin chasing him. Eon had the home field advantage, since he knew the layout of the land, and began to use it to try to tire this psycho that chased him. Eon began regretting his descision, as he realized that he was going farther, and farther away from the school. He also realized that even though he was beginning to tire, the man showed no sign of wanting to stop. If Eon hadn't known better, he would've said the man actually appeared to enjoy the chase.

Putting such pointless thoughts aside, Eon instead focused on keeping up his pace. So intent was he in running, that he didn't notice the man pull back his arm, and throw something at Eon. Before Eon had fully realized what happened, he felt his feet tangle up, and fell heavily towards the ground. The grass helped cushion his fall, but his speed now betrayed him, adding extra force to his fall, knocking the air out of him.

Gasping for breath, Eon sat up. He didn't waste time rubbing his sore body, instead he focused on trying to disentangle the cords that bound his feet. He was just about to take apart the last not, when the man came into view. Working more quickly, Eon stared as the man lifted up his staff, radiating pure power.

Eon stood mesmerized as the man whispered something to himself, while slowly turning the rod in front of him with one hand. Eon watched as the staff seemed to glow, and flinched when from the knobby end, two blades, resembling ax blades, came out. The man spun the staff faster, all the while continuing to whisper to himself. The blades continued to grow, until they were the length of the rod itself, doubling it's size. Now the man raised his voice, and Eon could hear him chanting something in a foreign language, the staff spun in blur of motion, and Eon could easily imagine it be the hand of a huge clock, a huge deadly clock, marking the last moments of life he had left. All the sudden the man spun around in a complete circle. As he spun, a ball of white energy collected in between the gap made by the two giant blades, sticking the staff straight out, he sent the energy right towards Eon.

Eon barely had time to register what was happening before he was hit by the blast, which caught him head on.

In the spot were Eon once sat, there's was only a bare patch of grass, the man to had vanished, seemingly into thin air.
