Marella knew she was the bad guy, and for the record she was perfectly fine with that. It had been 2 months since she'd joined the neverseen, 4 months since she'd manifested as a Pyrokinetic. 4 months since her world fell apart.
She looked around her room in the Neverseen hideout, the "room" was honestly more like a cave, the walls a mix of dirt and stone, two shabby bunk beds against the wall, a dresser with a mirror so grubby you could hardly see in it, and most strangely, a glittery cat statue. Marella only had one roommate, a flasher named Glimmer, she didn't know much about Glimmer, only that she was about 2 years older than her, and she seemed to have a strange attachment to the cat statue. Marella didn't mind having the statue, it was the only colorful thing in the room and it was just a bit nice to have something that looked like it could belong to the sparkly world she had left behind, though she would never say that out loud to anyone, villains were supposed to be scary with cool hair, not find comfort in glittery statues of cats.
As she scanned the room She thought about her friends back in the lost cities, Dex, Biana, Stina, and Maruca. She thought she had been friends with Sophie but that was just another one of the things she'd been wrong about. Marella sighed, she wished she was back with them, playing bace quest, or stressing about midterms, stuff normal teenagers did. Instead she was sitting in a cave with a glittery cat feeling sorry for herself. Did she regret joining the neverseen? No. if she hadn't joined, the best case scenario would be scooping mammoth poop at the Sanctuary for the next 1000+ years. Besides if the elven world knew her other secret... no. She wasn't going to think about that right now. Thankfully she didn't need to as the door to the room creaked open, Glimmer was back. "You're back from training early" Marella noted.
"Yep." Glimmer said as she went to adjust the large black piece of fabric she wore around her head. She had dark skin, ocean blue eyes, and, despite being a flasher, seemed to really like the color black. She also had a white scar running across her nose, Marella had learned not to ask about it.
"So... Is there a reason you're back early?" Marella pressed
"We have a meeting in five minutes," Glimmer said, not making eye contact. "Get on your cloak." This was about the closest thing the two had ever gotten to a proper conversation.
Marella pulled on her Neverseen cloak, it was simple black with white eyes on the shoulders and about three sizes too big, the Neverseen had unsurprisingly, not had a cloak in her size. Glimmer put up her hood (which Marella always found strange as it was hardly different from her head scarf, but she guessed rules where rules)
"Come on." Glimmer said, opening the door and walking out into the network of underground tunnels and caves that connected the different rooms of the neverseen hideout. Since Marella had joined they had only had about three meetings, sometimes it was a new recruit, sometimes it was discussing plans for the neverseens next atack, whatever it was she hardly paid attention to any of it. Marella followed Glimmer through the tunnels, every once and a while they would come across a door in the wall, a few times Marella tried to stop to read the labels but Glimmer was walking fast and if Marella didn't have Glimmer to follow she was pretty sure she might end up stuck in the tunnels for ever. After a few minutes of walking in silence the duo came across a larger door, Glimmer activated the DNA pad and the door opened to the meeting room, Marella made sure her cloak hood was pulled over her head and stepped inside the mass of black cloaks.
The room was big. Well, not that big in elven standards, but definitely bigger than the rest of the rooms in the hideout, in the center of the meeting area there was a large stone circle that acted like a stage, on it was one large figure and two smaller figures, all cloaked. Marella started fidgeting with her hair under her hood, she was so small compared to the larger figures around her that no one seemed to notice. The larger figure spoke and Marella recognized the voice as Gethen's,
"Today you have been gathered here to welcome two new recruits to our...little group." Marella's head shot up. New recruits? And they had looked quite small compared to Geathen... Could it be more people her age? She tried to get a look at the stage but someone had moved in front of her, blocking her view. She silently cursed her lack of height and went back to braiding bits of her hair. Besides, even if there were other kids they would probably be just like Glimmer, cold and distant, or they would avoid her the moment they found out about her pyrokinesis, no one here, or back at foxfire would want to be her friend. Nonetheless her ears still pricked up when Geathen finished his welcome speech. "Now let us welcome our brother and sister, Tam and Linh Song"
