Chapter 8

It was official. Marella was an idiot.

Things had been perfect for a while, and, she had been stupid enough to think things could stay that way.

Marella had been so blinded by her want for a friend she had completely forgotten all the rules she'd set up, everything she'd worked up to not happen,

Marella Redek had a crush on Linh Song.

Of course this whole realization came to her when she was supposed to be practicing her telekinesis.

"Now, imagine the rock floating up, picture it in your mind and use your core to make that happen" the instructor at the front of the room said.

It was safe to say Marella was not paying attention whatsoever.

How was she supposed to focus on making some rock float into the air when Linh was so pretty? And Kind. And Nice. Where kind and nice the same thing? Blarg.

She had no idea how it had happened, one day she just woke up and thought 'hm,

And ever since then she just hadn't been able to think straight around her.

She was only snapped back to reality by the large shadow now looming over her. She looked up to find the telekinesis mentor standing above her. Their hood was off and Marella could see their honey-brown skin and shoulder length green hair. They arched an eyebrow at her,

"Still unable to lift a single rock?"

"Yes" she grumbled, looking away.

The instructor sighed and knelt down so they could be eye-level with Marella

"Marella, you came here to make a difference in the world. This is not like back at foxfire. At some point you will need to go on a mission or I don't know how much longer they'll let you stay here"

"I know," Marella sighed. But she knew that they wouldn't kick her out. Why? Because she was a pyrokinetic, the only other two the neverseen had were either imprizend, or dead. She really did want to make a change in the world, try and get pyrokinesis unbanned, maybe try and go back to a normal life... though, unless she was able to get proper training, she couldn't see herself using her ability anytime soon.

Marella stared at her rock for a good few minutes before deciding it was useless. Thankfully the class was over by then and neverseen members were slowly starting to leave for whatever they had next on their schedule.

In many ways training with the neverseen and being as exilium where similar; the bad food, the harshness with training, at least with the neverseen cloaks where opchanal most of the time, it also gave her a bed to sleep in, shelter, and now, friends... and linh. Who was technically still her friend. But the main reason she had chosen to stay with the neverseen was because it was her last shot at making a difference in the world, at possibly being able to return to the lost cities, And though she didn't want to admit it, because she wanted revenge, on the black swan. on Sophie.

"Marella!"

Marella's head perked up at the sound of her name being called. She looked through the crowd to see Linh waving at her, shortly followed by Tam and a grumpy looking Glimmer.

Marella ran over to them "What's up?"

"Some sort of meeting thing" Tam answered, "whatever it is Glimmer's not happy about it"

"No. I'm not." Glimmer huffed "I thought they burned the darn thing!"

Marella, Tam, and Linh estranged looks a mix of confusion and concern

"Ugh! Come on." Glimmer said as she practically dragged them all to the meeting room "you'll see for yourselves"

Authors note: Ugh. this chapter was honestly torturer to write, it took about 3 weeks and I just had no clue what to do with it. This chapter can also be known as 'Welcome, to episode one of an asexual who's never had a crush before tries to figure out how crushes work'. I feel like I'm being really overly negative, I'm just tired. hopefully my struggle didn't show through as much as I thought it did, and as always thanks for reading :)
