It was now the last day of school, Betty and James's seventeenth birthday had passed, and the two of them were in last period Gym. Everyone was getting ready to say bye for the summer. In Gym they decided to play dodgeball. However, Betty did not get selected on James's team. As the two were on opposite ends of the gym throwing balls at each other, Bettys favorite song, "Lover" comes on. Another guy behind her, who also seemed to love the song started doing a little dance, and Betty did too. The two of them laughed meanwhile James silently stared at them. In about twenty minutes, class was over and it was time to leave for the summer.
"I'm going to miss you so much!" cried Inez and she squeezed Betty. "Oh and also, you know Augustine? I heard she's been hooking up with that hot senior! Oh, and you know that hot senior? I heard he also hooked up with Abigail. The red-headed one!" Betty sighs, and looks at Inez, accepting the fact that Inez will never not be the girl who spreads all the rumors, whether they're true or not.
"I'm gonna miss you and all your rumors", Betty tells Inez. Inez smiles and the two of them walk outside to see James waiting for Betty. Betty runs up to him, kisses and hugs him, and the two of them hold hands.
"So are we gonna see each other at all during the summer?" Betty looks up at him sadly. "No and I'm sorry Betty, but I'm going to be at a sleepaway camp all the way in New Jersey!" James replies. New Jersey was pretty far from Pennsylvania, where they lived. Betty seemed okay, but she had come to the realization that she might be alone for the summer, just like she was alone inside that closet, hiding. At this point, Betty started to feel pointless and feel like nobody wanted to hang out with her for the summer. She slowly walked home, upset, while the rest of the school was screaming with excitement for the summer. As she walks home, a girl running at full speed brushes Betty's shoulder. Betty ignored as she didn't expect an apology. Nobody would apologize to a nerd like Betty.
"Sorry about that!" the girl exclaimed. Betty was a bit shocked. She looked at the girl and it was the one who slept with the senior: Augustine. Betty didn't expect such a stupid bitch to be so kind. She took a closer look at Augustine: she had long strawberry blonde hair and pretty teal eyes. She was wearing a white dress and looked like a fairy you would see in fantasy. Augustine runs apologizes then runs away. She was running so fast that James, who was adjacent to her, crossing the street, collides with Augustine. James's books fall everywhere.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry," exclaims Augustine.
"It's okay! I'm James." He takes a closer look at Augustine, without Betty even noticing as she's busy scrolling on her phone. James immediately finds Augustine stunning, and she stares at James for a bit too. The two of them walk away in the same direction. Betty notices nothing. She continues walking until she arrives at her house, the same one where her dad left her.
