Adventure starts

It's late May, the last day of school. I hang around the lockers with my two best friends.

"OMG Kelly I can't believe I won't see you for two whole months! Why do you need to go to Italy every summer anyway? There's plenty of parties here and fun stuff."

Jess accused in her know it all high pitched voice. Jessica was short, redheaded, and conventionally pretty with a cute button nose and green eyes. One of my best friends since I was in kindergarten.

"I know, I'll miss you so much. But you know how much I love Italy! I'll bring you a souvenir I promise." I exclaimed, smiling at her running my hands down from her shoulders.

"Jess leave her alone, imagine all the cute Italian boys! Kells if you don't have a summer love I swear I'm calling the police."

Katie squinted at me with a smile tugging her lips. Katie on the other hand was the new girl a couple of years ago. Jessica and I decided to befriend her, and that's how our trio started. She is tall, blonde, and has blue eyes. I don't think I need to tell you why all the boys adored her.

"Kelly you better write us! We never hear from you when you go to Italy, it's like you forget about us." Jess scoffed.

The truth is I did forget about them, life in Aspra was my slice of heaven, home away from home.

"You guys know how expensive it is to send mail all the way from Italy! I will try to send at least one postcard." I assured embracing both of them for a bear hug.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye" Katie announced.

"I guess. Bye guys, I love you, see you in a couple of months!"

I called out while skipping away from them. They looked at each other and waved. I turned around and smiled.

I walked home and went straight up to my room, I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I really had changed, my face is slimmer, my jawline much more visible, my round blue eyes looked brighter now that it was summer and my nose is a little slimmer but the bump is still there, the bump in my nose which connected me to my Italian heritage. My freckles are scattered along my cheek and nose. My light brown hair has formed waves like it did every summer. My body was what has changed the most, I have grown out of my girlish body, it is now a young lady's one. My stomach is flatter and my thighs longer and smaller. I smirked and looked away. I walked over to the closet and pulled out the suitcase I use every year for Italy, its brown made out of leather and smells old, no particular smell. Just old, I love it. I tossed a bunch of bikinis, tank tops, cut-offs, jeans, and sundresses. As soon as I was done I closed it shut and jumped to my bed. I stared at the ceiling for a while, I can't believe summer is finally here. This is going to be the summer, I just know it.

Dinner rolled around and it was my dad, mom, and me sitting around the dinner table. I hated dinner with my parents, they were always arguing, and
if not everyone was dead silent. I guess they fell out of love through the years.

"So Kells, are you excited for tomorrow?" My dad asked smiling.

"Is that even a real question! I can't wait for tomorrow!"

"Kevin, what time is the flight tomorrow again?" My mom mumbled chewing a piece of her dry chicken.

I always knew my mom didn't like Aspra as much as my dad and me. I never knew why, it is literally the best place ever. My dad goes fishing and cooks all day. Meanwhile, mom reads and swims in the crystal clear ocean, how could somebody not like that?

"Aubrey, I've told you a dozen times. The flight leaves at eight am, we should probably leave the house at around five." He shrugged.

After that nobody said anything. I said my goodbyes and headed to bed. I wouldn't let their problems become mine, so I brushed their bitterness off and smiled thinking how I would see my people. my friends, no, not friends, my best friends, my family tomorrow.
