I'm sick and tired of your attitude

I'm feeling like I don't know you

Chapter 08 ~ Tell Me Why

      Max Caldwell

The sunlight peeping through the blinds and shining on my face was what broke me out of my sweet slumber. My eyes fought their way open, but only to quickly close again when the bright sunlight flashed into my eyes. I let out a low groan as I clasped a hand over my face and turned to my side, stretching my arm out to touch the empty space next to me.

As soon as I realized what happened, I immediately sat up straight. I was wide awake now, any remnant of sleep was completely gone. I stared down at the space beside me which still held the imprint of Liam's body, but he was nowhere to be seen.

"No, no, no, no!"

I scrambled out of bed, but my legs got tangled in the sheets and I ended up falling to the floor with a giant thud. The pain ripped through my back like a bolt of electricity, but it was nothing like the pain in my heart. We didn't even have sex, and he still ran out on me even when he promised he wouldn't.

I wanted to scream. I wanted to cry. I wanted to curl up in the corner and never talk to anyone ever again. How could I be so stupid, again? Why couldn't I ever do things right? My parents were right, I was out of control. I fell in love too easily, and that was why I got my heart broken every single time.

I rested my head against the hardwood floor and stared blankly at the ceiling fan. Now I had to worry about how I was planning on sneaking out of here. Certainly, his parents wouldn't be too welcoming of the idea of an unknown boy tip-toeing around the house.

I caught a glimpse of several, small, orange bottles filled with multi-colored pills sitting atop Liam's bedside table. I snatched one of them and inspected the label. I didn't get much from it because the writing was worn out. Not having the time nor energy to try to decipher what it must've read, I tossed it to the side.

The door burst open and I jumped up in surprise, accidentally hitting my head against the table. I squeezed my eyes shut and sucked in a sibilant breath as my hands snaked around my head in an effort to try to soothe the pain. As soon as it began to subside, I slowly peeled my eyes open, only to see Liam standing in the doorway with a white paper bag hanging from his mouth and two cups of coffee clutched in his hands.

"What are you doing here?" I hissed.

Liam looked around the room. "I live here."

I wanted to slap my hand on my forehead at the ridiculous question, but my head was throbbing too much to even lift a finger. "I thought you left," I spat.

He placed the coffee cups on his desk and made his way over to me with his hand rummaging through the white paper bag. "I got us donuts," he informed me. "I didn't know what kind you liked, so I just got one of everything."

My brows knitted together in confusion. "Donuts?"

"Yeah." He retrieved a sprinkled donut from the paper bag and took a large bite of it. His turquoise eyes landed on me again, and he stopped chewing. "Or do you not like donuts? Dammit, I knew I should've went to the diner instead."

I observed as he started to freak out over the donuts, which only made me even more confused. He actually bought breakfast for me? "No, it's okay," I reassured him. "I love donuts. It's just that, no one has ever done that for me before."

Liam slipped out of his anxious state and pulled his lips into a comical smile. "No one has ever fed you?"

I rolled my eyes playfully, but it made my head sting. "You know what I meant."
