"Well then, nice to meet you Ms... or Mrs. Niki!" I smiled at the Merling, then a concerned look crossed my face, "Don't you need to breathe...?"
A look of surprise crossed her face, she quickly went beneath the water and then resurfaced, "I completely forgot about that.. thanks."
I burst out into laughter, "H-how do you," I gasped for breath, "forget to b-breath-" A sharp wheeze escaped my lungs as I finished my sentence.
Niki made a bunch of droplets float out of the water, I held my hands up in defeat. "Don't throw them at me, I'll turn to stone!" I said while laughing.
Niki let the droplets fall back into the water, letting it splash out onto the earth.
"Ahem," Arien called over our laughter, "Ms. Manifold, Mr. Manifold, we must be getting back to camp, it's nearly daylight."
I nodded, "Yes, I believe we should be getting back, I am getting quite hungry."
"Goodbye, Miss Niki!" Arien called as they started to walk away, "Seraphina, Jack, time to go."
"Goodbye, Niki. Thank you for helping Sera." Jack called as he walked after Arien.
"I ought to be going as well, maybe we can meet again tomorrow night? Right here?" I asked, looking at the earth beside me. When did this grass become so interesting?
"Of course, I'll see you then, Mx. Seraphina. Now go catch up with them, you have to eat!" Niki said as she dove back into the water.
"Farewell, see you later!" I called as I ran off behind Jack and Arien.
-Niki's POV-
Would that be considered a... date? What am I thinking, of course it's not a date, the Ocean and the Nether are enemies, I couldn't date a Blazeborn anyway, they can't touch water, meaning we couldn't touch each other without one of us hurting the other.
I should probably get going, my family will be waiting for me to make breakfast soon.
"Did you hear of the legend, Princess Niki?" Called one of the Merlings in the reef.
"No, I didn't hear anything about and legends, what is it?" I asked, stopping to listen as that is polite.
"The village near Cliffspray is trading Turtle Shell helmets which, according to the legend, let Merlings breathe out of water. Also, I'm Keltin, transgender, he/him pronouns." The Merling stated, smiling at me.
I returned the smile, "Well, it's very nice to meet you, Keltin. I'll have to check that out soon."
"Oh, Princess Niki, if you do go and it is true could you bring one for me, I can give you the Emeralds, I've never been on land." Keltin replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Or you could come with me, it's quite a ways away to Cliffspray and I do hate traveling alone." I replied, looking at the school of fish swimming by. I love fish, they come in all sorts of awesome colours, shapes, and sizes.
"Yes please! I'd love to, I ought to let you be off now. Sun is rising and it may soon be time for breakfast." Keltin replied, saluting to me and swimming away.
I smiled and continued my journey back to the castle. Such a nice young Merling, he couldn't be more than 14 years old, and to figure out who he is at this age, or even before... I am so proud of the children and people these days, that is, when they're good people
