What if the Dream SMP is cursed?

The lands of what Dream claimed as the Greater SMP, in the very beginnings of the server, before Wilbur, before Tommy, what if they were cursed? Specifically, a curse tied to its leaders. Those who held power over others. A curse dooming the land to constantly fall into war and strife, jealousy and rage.

There are many who hold power in the lands of the SMP.

----------------------------------------------

It starts with Dream. Of course, he held power. He put a claim to the lands, a man in charge of allowing people passage through and granting their stay. Furthermore, he held the power to terminate them if needed. He effectively ruled the lands of the Greater SMP. Dream maintained control and did his best to keep the peace. He started as a peaceful ruler if a bit chaotic at times, but all he wanted in his lands was peace.

Then came Wilbur, one who spearheaded a brilliant revolution. He was a cunning leader who could sway his follower's beliefs with only his words. All Wilbur wanted was to create a safe haven in Dream's lands, somewhere protected from his constricting gaze. He led a new nation, a country ready to fearlessly fight for its independence. Wilbur was president, holding political power, but that was nothing compared to the loyalty of his followers. He was kind and optimistic. A bright young man with a hopeful heart, wanting to make peace for his friends and his family.

Following Wilbur was Schlatt. He hadn't initially wanted the power. Why would he? He was already successful, he didn't need a presidency on top of that. However, it was clear he could provide an outside perspective on the troubling situation rising with Wilbur. . Wilbur wasn't okay. He was getting just as desperate for power and control over his nation as Dream had been over the Greater SMP. Schlatt knew his friend, he wanted to help him. If that meant giving him a wake-up call, that he probably wouldn't like, then so be it. He would care for Manburg, do his best to make it better, stronger, bigger than it had been before. Maybe, just maybe, Wilbur could come back when he came back to being himself. Until then, Schlatt would watch over the new nation for his friend.

Then came Badboyhalo, founding yet another nation. All he wanted was to end the suffering in the SMP. He just wanted the fighting to stop.

Following Schlatt, in Manburg, was Tubbo. Just a kid, a child soldier. An innocent soul traumatized by war and anguish and death. He wanted peace too with a goal to build a stable home for his friends and family. Or... what was left of them, at least. He wanted to rebuild what they had lost, make it better than Old L'Manburg, and better than Manburg. Somewhere to be remembered and be remembered well. Somewhere to finally be safe.

Then came Quackity. He'd been in the shadows of power time and time again, and now it was his turn. He built a home for himself, for his fiances, for his family. He built a nation, where they could live comfortably. He just wanted to protect them. To surprise them with something beautiful.

----------------------------------------------

But... that's not where any of their stories end. The curse on the lands took hold of each of them, one by one. No one in power would get to keep it, no one in power would get to keep themselves.

----------------------------------------------

For Dream, it started with a need for control. This need picked at him, edging him on until he succumbed to it. Slowly, ever so slowly, allowing it to leech into his everyday thoughts and actions. He wanted- he needed- control. Dream started with Tommy, the boy who didn't need him. The one who made his curse, him so angry. Tommy, the boy who never listened. He began tightening the rules, keeping a watchful gaze. He threatened, and stole, and tried to kill a young boy and his friend for the sole purpose of control.
