Shinjiro peered at the clock's bright numbers.

'4:29am'

After a brief sleep, he was awoken by a repeated banging sound against his wall and what sounded like groans of discomfort that had yet to stop.

These sounds frequently came from Ayaka's room during this time of night but he just couldn't ignore them this time.

Typically, when Shin would ask Aya what the sounds were she would brush it off as her sleep walking or joke about there being a monster in the walls that eats little kids who stay up too late, but Shinjiro had a deep gut feeling that would latch on to him and not let go until morning. He knew something was wrong but he couldn't think of what.

He began to brainstorm some ideas.

'Maybe she was practicing circus tricks on her bed? No.. why would she do that? Maybe... shes getting a massage? That would explain the groans but who needs that many massages? Hmmmm.'

He continued to rack his brain for any possible information, until a frightening thought hit him.

'What if... what if she's having nightmares! That would explain the groaning and her tossing and turning would move the bed into the wall!'

Needless to say, Shinjiro felt like quite the little genius. Despite the concerning idea that his sister was suffering from night terrors, his face lit up with another realization.

"I can help her!" He excitedly whispered to himself. He hurriedly grabbed his Hawks night light off of his end table and a few of his favorite pro hero plushies to give to Aya.

He walked to his door and gulped nervously. He had never left his room at night before and the hallway is already creepy enough during the day. He looked down at the plushies in his hand and took a deep breath.

'It's ok!' He thought, "I can be a hero and help Aya, just like Hawks would!" He reassured himself.

With one final deep breath, he opened his creaky door and stepped one foot out.

The hallway was pitch black, only barely being lit up by the night light in his hand.

He looked down both sides of the hall before quietly turning left. He tiptoed his way to Ayaka's room and found that the noises were getting louder. He almost thought he could make out an additional grunt from within the room but quickly abandoned the idea.

Reaching her room, he noticed that a dim light was still emanating from beneath the door. The discovery that she also needed a night light to sleep comforted him.

He set the night light at his feet and wiped his palms on his pants to calm his nerves. He lightly knocked on the door out of respect and wrapped his hand around the doorknob. As the door creaked open, the noises only got louder.
