Loki opened his eyes to a rush of colors streaming past him, reminding him painfully of the Bifrost. He had just gotten a hold of himself when the portal reached its destination, promptly hurling him out. "AAAAHHHHH!" Loki cried as he plummeted down out of the air. He landed with a hard thud on the ground in complete darkness. Loki scrambled to his feet, summoning his daggers to his hands. To his relief his magic had returned. There was no sign of Mobius or the TVA, weather it was out of fear or wisdom, they had not followed him. Loki summoned a ball of light and stumbled through the rubble trying to make sense of where he was. The label on the little machine had said Ragnarok, right? Was this Midgard, Asgard?! He didn't know. Slowly tracking further he found the ruined halls of the Royal Asgard palace. Loki brightened his ball of light dragging Æseir bodies torn from gut to head out of the shadows. Thick tufts of wolf hair lay scattered around the grounds mixed with blood. There was no moon, no sun, and the once glorious stars winked out one by one. The only light came from how far Loki could cast his spells.
Loki moved further into the wreckage of the palace seeing snake scales sizzling with electricity. He moved closer and the form of a giant serpent unveiled itself from the shadows. It didn't move, eyes glossed over, unaware of who passed by it. Nine paces away lay the haggard form of a god Loki could have recognized anywhere. Loki ran to it, finding Thor kneeling in defeat. Snake poison dibbled from an open wound running the length of his body. He wasn't breathing. Loki felt a wave of sorrow wash over him.
"Thor!" Loki called, and tried to wake him. A single touch and Loki recoiled. Thor's body was cold and stiff, there was no trace of the jubilant soul left.
"Brother?" Loki's whisper echoed in the empty world. Loki said nothing as tears streaked across his cheeks, but lay his brother down, placing the tattered cloak over his face. How many times had they fought? How many times had Loki betrayed him, but now, when none of it mattered, Loki grieved.Loki sat there, all motivation drained from his bones. In the darkness of a sunless world, he began to hum, the very lullaby Frigga would hum when she sent him and his brother to sleep. Now, Loki sat alone, singing Asgard to rest.
Something moved behind him, a deep growl chilling all that heard it. Loki started, instantly on his guard and brought up his light to come face to face with the yellow eyes of a giant wolf. It's fur was black, dark and thick, with the remains of a man in its jaws.
"Father?" Loki felt it's voice touch him, "Are you proud? Jörmungandr succeeded in killing Thor, Hel assembled her armies just like you wanted, and I have killed Odin. Do not mourn those who betrayed us."
Loki said nothing. He was filled with questions, but he was too tired. The wolf brought its large snout down to eye level with him and Loki caught a glimpse of an eye patch lodged in the wolf's jaws.
"Father, it's so dark and I cannot see you well. This is you isn't it?" The hot breath leaking out of the giant maw hit Loki in a wave of rancid mist."I am Loki," Was all he could say.
"Ah, well then," he could feel a wave of relief wash off the wolf, "if you're alive I can..." he yawned,"....rest for a bit."
Loki felt the giant body hit the ground, exhaustion practically flowing from the tips of its fur. Against better assumption, Loki ran his hand through the thick wolf mane, and felt the creature gently nuzzle into his touch. Loki leaned back. He had many questions, but was too tired to think. Loki felt sleep tug at his mind and he nestled himself into the wolf fur and slipped into a dreamless slumber.Don't forget to vote and comment!
