3- Banter

"Hey! You're back!"
Sophie was regretting her decision of going back to the coffee shop instantly.
"I'm just here for the coffee."
"Not my great customer service?" Keefe pouted.
"You served exactly one customer last time I was here," She shot back.
He threw his hands up in frustration.
"It was just you and like- four other people!"
"-And you only served me right before kicking me out- "
"You fell asleep!"
"-So yes, I'm just here for the coffee. Which, given your previous record, I may not even get."
Keefe blinked.
She thinks she's so smart...
He smirked, "All I'm hearing is you think I'm bad at my job."
"That's what the evidence suggests," she shrugged.
"Ah, but see. Your only source is yourself, at both your pieces of evidence are based off of a single
conversation. Also, you're withholding evidence in order to strengthen your point. Granted, it's not the
same as lying. But it does have the same effect. Also, you spoke from the point of view of a general
customer, and also from your personal account. I mean- you argued your point from two opposite
stances. Now, I can argue the exact opposite point. Using more evidence, too. Let's see. The first time
you were here, I was polite-"
"Subjective."
"So I wasn't?"
"... Continue."
"-And took your order almost immediately. The second time, I singled you out as the type of person who
may come here often enough. I made a point of talking to you and establishing a good relationship. Oh,
and I remembered your order. So I'd say I'm a fantastic employee."
Looking at how dumbstruck she was, he couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"I'd reply with something coherent, but this self-proclaimed wonderful employee who already knows
what I'm going to order is yet to get it for me. And I can't function without caffeine so- "
"Well, this lovely customer who takes pleasure in pointing out every one of my shortcomings hasn't told
me if she would like for me to get her what she usually orders. Which one of us is really at fault here?"
"Coffee."
