             4 days before the infection

11:34 pm.

Pain. That's all he felt. Everyone thought he was happy, energetic, greatful for life. He hates it. Everything makes him want to puke.

All that could be heard now was the sound of spraying. Spray paint to be exact, along with the smell that's so intoxicating to others but to him it's basically 7 years of art.

Others call it graffiti, why call it that? Art is a better way for it. Besides, it's how people show their emotions more. He looked at his almost finished masterpiece. An ash-wilted rose, it represents his entire life. All he needs is to get more paint.

But of course everything beautiful needs to be ruined, right?

Sirens were heard, it was faint but getting closer by the second. Following them was the sound of an officer yelling to stop. He put down the cans and held his hands in the air, surrendering. The officer walked to him slowly. You could hear the jingling of his keys hitting against his torso come from his body.

"Well, well, well! What do we have here? Did I finally catch you after 7 years of vandalism?" The officer smirked, he was teasing the 17 year old. They're both great friends so he wouldn't worry whenever he would get caught.

"Markie hyung! Long time no see." The younger smiled, of course not a real one. He doesn't show his real emotions. It makes him feel, weak. Mark grimaced, sure he was best friends with the boy but he can't keep covering up for him.

"More graffiti Huening?" The younger smiled, Mark only calls him Huening when he's angry. So, of course Kai took out a bag. He tossed it to Mark who caught it in time. The bag exploded in his face, it had baby powder.

The older now looked like he came out of a circus. "Markie the clown, I'll be back soon. Ta ta!" Kai took his things and ran. He heard his hyung yell and laughed.

The rush. The adrenaline in his body made him run faster. He could feel his heart beating quickly. It made him feel real, it made him feel... alive. That's all he ever wanted to feel.

But, that's when he realized. This isn't what normal people do. People like him get hurt for feeling this way. Sure he was innocent and all with people whom he actually cares about. As of right now, those people are air and sleep.

Kai Kamal Huening, 17. He hates everyone, especially his parents. He's the only son of his father, the CEO of H Corp

In other words, he's set for life.

Kai arrived to his so called "home". He put his things on the floor as he closed the front door. The lights turned on, his parents must've woken up.

"Kai Kamal Huening." He could hear the anger in his father's voice.

"What?" Kai didn't want to deal with his parents right now, he was tired and needed sleep.

"What the hell were you doing at 12 in the morning! Don't tell me you were doing graffiti again." Kai stayed silent, he knew if he talked back then he would get punished.

"Your mother and I raised you differently! Why are you such a mistake?" Pain, there it was again. The endless pain he receives every single day. Kai scoffed, clearly annoyed.

"Well at least I'm not some kind of snob unlike the both of you." A loud smack could be heard all around the house. His mother had slapped Kai.

"Go to your room right now, I'm disappointed in you Huening Kai. We are rich, use it to your advantage. Then maybe we will accept you as our son." Kai clicked his tongue in annoyance.

"I would rather die than be like you." Both the parents gasped as Kai walked to his room like nothing happened.

"You little piece of shit, apologize right now boy!" He heard his dad yelling at him. Kai slammed the door shut and locked it. He took out his phone and listened through his voicemails all over again like he always does.

"You have 13 saved messages." He clicked the first voicemail.

"Hi Kai, it's me. How are you doing? I heard you seem to be happy now. Don't worry about me since I'm doing fine. I miss you a lot." He went to the next.

"Hey Kai, it's me again. I can't seem to move on. Ever since you left nothing has ever been the same. Everyone distanced themselves, I'm all alone. When are you coming to visit us? Call me back soon."

He never did call back. Not since she broke his heart, he felt bad for the girl. Why? She died along with his old friends. Kai sighed, he turned off his phone. Listening to the voicemails of them made him at ease. That is until he always reached the last 2.

Kai put his phone on his nightstand. He got in bed and pulled the covers, he's had a habit of sleeping with plushies and he would never stop. He pulled the small chicken molang plushie that his old friend had gave to him.

"Never again will I be vulnerable with others..." Kai closed his eyes, he slowly drifted to sleep. All happy things come to an end. Just like his friends lives, their happiness would forever be gone. And so was his, if he hadn't left them he would've died with them. Together, forever.

But, nothing goes as planned. Not once, not ever.
