I walked beside Isurus as mutants from every country moved around a bustling beehive. Their greyish-green eyes darted around the scene. "are you alright, bud?" I looked at them, they turned to me, gills flared. "there are so many people. it's crazy." they said, clutching their staff a bit tighter. "Isurus, Kazuko. Me and Chikashi are going to speak with the Healer of Komorebi, Ayano Kaneshiro." sad Isurus's mentor, Hazel Andishwick. I smiled as I remembered the fond memory of my old healer. "Please tell her I said Hi, Ojisan?" I turned to my uncle, who smiled. "Hai. i'm sure she misses us. don't act to reckless." and with that he walked away. Isurus darted behind me, their eyes darting around. "would you like to head back to our flat?" I smiled at them. "yes please, there's too much going on." Isurus nodded rapidly. I chuckled and grabbed their webbed hand. "alright, alright. don't give yourself whiplash." I chuckled. we made out way back to the flat, above it was a lacquered plaque. "Diamond Square Districts, Amethyst and Onyx, Los angles." i smiled as I entered our flat, right into the StoneScout Room. it was decorated like a cave with a small pool of crystal blue water in the corner, shōji doors blocked off where Hazel and my uncle were to sleep, beautiful purple, red and black blossoms laced the roof like stars splattered against the inky night sky. Bonbori lit the room with a warm, natural light, the cedar floors creaked underneath my feet as I sat my bags on the low-to-the-ground bed. "woah, this place is so pretty." said Isurus, looking at some intricately painted fine china pots with little bonsai growing out of them on the dark cedar dresser. "I know, it feels like home." i smiled, remembering the easier times where me and my siblings would sit by the pond near our house and feed the Koi and watch the pink shower of cascading cherry blossoms spreading their beauty. "It's so cool you got to grow up here." said Isurus as they sat next to me, breathing heavily out of their gills. "yeah, well not this area in specific, I lived near the line of Yamanashi and Tokyo." I said, laying back. Isurus hummed in acknowledgement and turned to look at the small pool of water in the corner of the room. "what's that for?" they said, pointing at it. "it's for aquatic mutants to either sleep or dampen their scales. there's one in every room." I said. scratching my ear. Isurus's tail tapped against the floorboard slowly with a loud thud as their face spread into a giddy smile. they went over and opened their black travel case and pulled out their swimwear. "I'm gonna shower while you do that." I said, sitting up and stretching, my forked tongue flicking out and my fangs outstretching. "okay!" Isurus said, waiting for me to go into the bathroom before they changed. I grabbed my nightclothes and soap and entered the bathroom. I turned on the water and untied my fiery cascade of curls, undressing and stepping in the small shower. the water made made my almost never ending hair feel like a dead animal on my head. when I was done I stepped out and did everything that was needed. as I dressed into the nightclothes, I realized my tank-top wasn't there. I grumbled and peaked out the door silently. Isurus must have submerged themself, as they weren't anywere to be seen. I wrapped my towel around my chest and walked out to grab the milk white tank. I walked a good two steps before I felt strong yet thin arms lift me off the ground by my underarms, the towel falling slowly to the floor, and my attacker squeaked and dropped me as I promptly yowled and thrashed, doing the escape twist and grabbing my staff from beside the bed and reeling around to the threat, only to see Isurus covering their eyes. "what the fuck, Isu!?" I hissed as I grabbed my tank and slipped it over my head, picking up my discarded towel from the floor. "I'm so sorry Zuko! I thought the towel wasn't a towel!" they held up their other hand defensively, their gills were closed shut. "you're fine." I said slowly, yet as they turned to sulk off into the water I whipped their shark-like tail with my towel. "Shibuya Kazuko!" they snickered, face redder than my hair. "what? did I do something?" I turned away coyly, scratching my scales. Isurus chortled deeply in their throat, trying to seem scary, but they just sounded like a sickly old dog growling. I turned and growled back "what are you gonna do, Mx. Sharkiekid?" I teased, flashing my hood jokingly. "I'll eat you lke a spaghetti noodle you snake." they said, poking my nose and standing up straight. "sure you are, Mako." I snuffed. Isurus finally took the bait, leaping at me playfully. I let them land on me, thinking I could just easily get them off, but I forgot how tall Isurus was. They sat on my back, using their tailfin to hold my head down. "Get offa me! you overgrown sushi!" I punched at their tail, but it was no use. "fine you win you giant dentist's nightmare." I pleaded, hating the vunrable spot. Isurus laughed an relented their attack. rolling off of me but leaning somewhat so our magnetic heart neckalce locked together. Our heads pulled forward and our forehead bumped togther. "Ow!" Isurus yelped, causing us to laugh until our sides ached. We laid on the floor for a minute looking at each other before Isurus broke the quiet. "I'm glad your my best friend, Zu." they took my hand, and smiling. I smiled stupidly. "Same here." I yawned. "tomorrow I'll take you to my favorite place here, you'll love it." I said, turning on my side to face them. "oh? that sounds nice." Isurus said, yawing loudly and distorting their sentence. "we should get some sleep," I said. shuffling through my bag to pull out a sleeping mat. "wait you're not gonna sleep on the floor. I don't mind you sharing the bed with me, also why is their only one bed??" Isurus said, patting the left side as they collapsed into the bed. "I guess they figured you'd want to sleep underwater." I said, laying down on the empty space. Isurus sighed then laughed as they turned off the lamp beside them. "that's dumb" their voice was growing quiet. I felt their tail drape itself over my side. "mhmm. goodnight Isu." I said, my eyelids growing heavy. before they shut I heard a quiet "g'night, Kaz." as I drifted to sleep.
