Beast (rewrite)

Chapter 4

This ended up being so long. Probably the longest chapter I've written excluding one-shots (which I haven't written in a long time, maybe I should write a new one at some point. Maybe it'll help with my writers block. Tell me what y'all think of that idea, as well as suggestions of what I should write that would be helpful :3). Anyway! Enjoy this chapter and tell me any errors so I can edit :3

As the castle begins shooting, Lance easily dodges. He pulls on the controls, Blue flying backwards, pulling one back farther so he's flying slightly sideways. He moves quickly, not as fast as the red lion is able to go, but right now he's faster than the red one, who was getting hit a few times. All of them are getting hit except Blue, who purrs at her cub with joy. Blue doesn't much like the Princess either. She knows that when Allura saw only four humans, she was excited, it meant there was a possibility that she could get one of the lions. And that would've left her with Blue, so imagine Blue's joy at the realization that Lance was still alive. Blue knew what kind of woman Allura had become, and she did not match what she required in her cubs. Allura may have had a chance with Red, but Red already had Keith when Red returned to the castle. But Red wouldn't have accepted her either, not the way she is now - and definitely not with the way she treats Lance.

Lance closes his eyes, once more joining with Blue, making it easier to dodge the lasers as they got more intense. He saw Hunk try to return to the castle, only to bounce off the barrier. He was looking through the eyes of his lion. He still had control of his body - in a way. His body only moved to get Blue to move the way he needed. Blue was also holding partial control, but left the decisions to him, only taking control if she felt he was making a bad decision. She was glad she got the boy, it meant she wasn't taking a beating like the others were. She chuckles a bit at the other lions, who growl at her. They had inexperienced paladins. It wasn't their fault. Blue, leave them alone. They have to get inexperienced paladins. Blue pouts, and Lance pets her in their connection, earning a purr in response.

"Form Voltron and the barrier will automatically come down," Allura says, angry that Lance wasn't getting hit. "I have other systems I need to check, so good luck!" She says cheerily before cutting the comms. Lance is already ready to form Voltron, but he knows the others don't know how they did it last time due to the adrenaline and stress they were under during the fight. Their lions had taken partial control of the situation last time, only enough for instinct to start taking over. But Lance knew that the lions wouldn't do that in a training. The paladins couldn't rely on the lions to form that connection every time.

Lance doesn't risk breaking his concentration on keeping his mind in Blue. He didn't want her getting hurt just so he can try once more to explain to the paladins something he didn't know how to explain. He takes a deep breath as he continues dodging. He moves the lion gracefully, like they're dancing in the air. The others were focusing, trying to do what Lance had told them earlier during the battle. Lance sees them start to fly in formation, and joins them, still dodging lasers while staying in formation. He glances into the plane where the lionesses stood. He saw Shiro and Keith's forms flickering in and out, but that was it. Lance returned to looking through Blue's eyes. Red and Black were already forming their bonds. It meant a little less work, so Lance was grateful for that.

After a while of trying to form Voltron, the barrier suddenly falls. Hunk and Pidge are the first ones back to the castle. Keith follows closely soon after, then Shiro. Lance lets go of the connection with one last pet to the lioness before he's once more sitting in the cockpit of the lion. He takes a deep breath as he pilots her back to her hangar. He steps out of her mouth, running a hand along the wall before he steps off the ramp and walks out, looking for the other paladins. He finds them in the lounge room, Keith was standing against the wall, Pidge and Hunk were on the couches and Shiro was telling them they still need to train. Lance was about to speak up, but Allura came in.
