The Experiment
Chapter Two

As soon as I'd gotten inside and closed the sliding door, I found Kai -he was standing over by the pool table with some friends I recognized from school. There were beer cans and empty bottles everywhere, along with ash from joints and cigarettes that were being passed around. It was disgusting, I held my breath as smoke tried to seep into my lungs. I'd text Kai telling him where I was and just find some friends in the meantime. I once again, pushed my way through the crowd of sweaty partiers until I found Lin. Lin was one of my best friends and I'd known her since grade nine along with Cate and Lance.
"Hey Lin!" I attempted to call out to her over the pounding of the bass, it was no use. I tried to gain her attention by grabbing her arm and pulling gently, she just shooed me away. I could see that she was talking to a cute guy, but come on! What if I needed help, what if it was serious? Though I couldn't blame her, bad things never happened to me.
I headed to the lounge area, where it was quieter and less crowded, and texted Kai - asking him to meet me there. I sat on the couch with my legs crossed, to my surprise - there were several couples making out on the couches scattered across the disarrayed living room, empty alcohol bottles mixed with cigarette buts littered the floor. I even spotted a used condom and I looked away in disgust. I kept my eyes on my hands and didn't look up until Kai got there. He sat down with me on the couch and wrapped an arm around my shoulders, trying to comfort me. He obviously knew something was bothering me, just not what. I didn't either, really.
"Wanna just go home? We'll get you a red freezie on the way and cuddle in bed watching movies, until we fall asleep?" I smiled as I leaned my head into the crook of his neck and took in his scent; mysterious and a little fruity.
"That sounds perfect." He always had the best ideas. We got to the car when he remembered that he'd offered a drunk friend a drive home, earlier.
"Well, go tell him quickly then!" I wanted to go home and get out of there as soon as possible.
"It's okay, I can just text him." He shrugged it off and started walking to the drivers side, I pulled him back before he got there.
"No, he's drunk and if I know Dan, and I do, he'll of lost his phone already. Just go tell him and run back here okay?" I said with a giggle, he laughed too and pulled me in for a hug.
"You're the best; always looking out for others, I love you Savvy." I told him I loved him too and he jogged back to the cabin after giving me a quick kiss on the forehead.
The air suddenly got thick and cold around me, and shivers went down my spine, causing goosebumps to erupt all over my bare skin. I crossed my arms and looked around the front of the cabin. It was simple, big but not too big; long stacks of circle shaped wood stacked on top of each other. Small dark patches stood out against the lightly coloured wood, creating strange shapes. A tall tree loomed over the front of it and cast shadows onto the cabin, the shadows just made the scene all the more creepy. It was summer so it shouldn't be cold, but the goosebumps were still there. Ugh, where was Kai? He should have been back by now.
I walked over to the car, hoping it was unlocked, but it wasn't. Damnit! I should have asked for the keys.. Instantly feeling very afraid and very alone, or so I thought, I started to walk back towards the cabin, deciding I could wait in there. As I started walking, I heard something snap from somewhere behind me. I froze. My heart started up again and I turned around so sharply that I was surprised I didn't give myself whiplash, I scanned the area around me and prayed that I wouldn't see any creepy little girls pop up out of nowhere. I turned back around and started walking much faster. When I had my hand on the doorknob and was just about to turn it, a voice I recognized spoke out from behind me.
