Mariana was used to spending her weekends in the Ravenclaw Common Room, drinking tea and reading sappy muggle books. It was a pleasurable experience and most importantly, time to herself.
That's exactly why the brunette was so distraught when her best friend approached her with a pleading smile and an invitation that would be beyond rude to turn down.
"It'll only be for a few hours. Maybe less. It depends on how fast Harry catches the snitch." Hermione explained, her arms nearly over-flowing with bulky books. One of them slipped out of her hands, causing the rest of them to topple to the floor.
Hermione groaned and bent down, hurriedly collecting her books in the middle of the busy corridor. Once they were all in her hands, she stood up once more, gasping for air.
Mariana sighed and took half of the stack of books from her, brushing off the situation as if it was nothing. "Are you so sure Harry will catch the snitch? I heard that Diggory was quite the seeker."
Hermione shook her head fervently. "Harry will catch the snitch, he always does. Besides, everyone knows that Hufflepuff isn't going to win, they're terrible at Quidditch."
Mariana sniggered to herself at her friend. To be so smart, Hermione wasn't careful with her words. "Only a fool places bets based off house stereotypes."
"Then I guess I'm a fool." Hermione grumbled, slightly annoyed with her friend.
Mariana had Herbology next so she stopped at her turn and grinned mischievously at Hermione. "My bet's on Hufflepuff."
"Gryffindor. 50 Galleons."
"All in. See ya', Hermione." Mariana remarked, saluting her friend and walking down the hallway, positive she would have 50 Galleons sitting in her pocket after the Quidditch game.

It was one of the most severe thunderstorms of the year, and the Quidditch game was still in motion. Mariana, putting her politeness to the side, had decided to skip out on the game and instead, study with Isobel Macdougal, a close friend of hers."I can't believe people are actually at that stupid match right now. It's practically a monsoon out there." Isobel remarked, shaking her head at the foolishness of her classmates.
"Some people fancy attending events under high-risk circumstances. Makes them feel brave." Mariana retorted calmly, never lifting her head from her Charms book.
"Doesn't make it any less ridiculous." Isobel's dark skin glowed in the fire light as she fiddled with one of her braids, talking to herself silently under her breath.
"No, it doesn't." Mariana mumbled as she scribbled down a note that she had gotten wrong originally.
"I hate rain. It's such a disturbance. It essentially sabotages the normal flow of life or slows it down, at least." Isobel commented. She looked out the window, watching disdainfully as the rain pelted down onto the Ravenclaw Tower's windows.
