It was past curfew at Hogwarts school and Mariana found herself in the library, studying for Professor Snape's test. She usually didn't need to study for anything, the Ravenclaw girl was naturally intelligent. But when it came to Potions, all her knowledge abandoned her.

"The Wiggenweld Potion...used for effective healing of any injury...and the antidote for the Draught...of Living Death Potion." Mariana whispered to herself as she read the torn and ragged pages of the book.

"Studying?" A familiar voice asked right in her ear, the person so close she felt their breath hit her face.

Mariana jumped out of her chair and spun around, startled by whoever had disrupted her study session. She suspected it was one of her peers playing a prank on her, but no. She was met with the gorgeous face of Cassius Kane, a sly smile spread across his face.

"Cassius, you frightened me!" Mariana yelled, her sweet voice cracking slightly as she was not used to yelling. Many people mistook the girl for timid or quiet, just because her voice was light and soft. But Mariana was quite the opposite actually, she found herself talking often whether it was to herself or other people.

"Sorry. What are you doing here so late at night anyways? I didn't pin you as the girl to break the rules." Cassius commented as he sat down lazily in the chair beside Mariana, making her heart rate speed up to an abnormal rate.

"It may come as a surprise to you, but I hate rules. They hold you back from unlocking new, unexplored areas of knowledge and wisdom." Mariana explained, a small yet adorable smile took over her face as she recited one of her very own quotes.

Cassius leaned forward in his chair and twirled a strand of her brunette hair around his finger. "I like that attitude."

Mariana cheeks were flaming red, and her palms were beginning to sweat. She had never been this close to Cassius, but she wasn't complaining.

"Thanks." Mariana whispered, looking deep into his black eyes that matched hers. In that moment, she wanted more than anything to kiss him but the Ravenclaw girl certainly wasn't bold enough to make the first move. She had never really been a particularly brave person. Mariana suspected that was one of the reasons she wasn't sorted into Gryffindor.

Cassius pulled back from Mariana and cleared his throat, diminishing all of her eagerness and excitement in a split second. Mariana glanced back down at her book in embarrassment, having basically just been rejected by Hogwarts biggest player.

Cassius, wanting to clear the awkwardness in the air, snatched her potions book and began to skim over the content of the page.

"A Wiggenweld Potion, seriously? That's what you third years are learning? That's ridiculously easy, you lot are lucky." Cassius scoffed. Mariana decided it best to not remind him that he was just a third year last year, not wanting to tarnish his ego.

But, she wasn't just going to let him get away with what he said, at least not completely.

"What is the last ingredient of a Wiggenweld Potion, Cassius?" Mariana asked, a challenging smirk taking over her face but still managing to remain angelic.

Cassius face went pale, knowing he was about to be embarrassed. "Uh...y'know, just your everyday... average potion...stuff.

Mariana giggled mischievously at Cassius and grabbed her Potions book from his hands, closing it lightly. She stood up from her chair and pushed it under the table, preparing to go back to her common room.

Cassius shot up from his seat, not bothering to push it under and followed Mariana to the door of the library. The Ravenclaw girl glanced at him in confusion but didn't comment on it as he walked in stride with her.

Once they reached the large double doors, the pair stopped. "Cassius, why are you here? In the library, I mean. I'm just curious."

"Would you believe me if I said you?" Cassius asked, hoping his lie would work on Mariana. He was interested in the odd girl, and wanted her to think well of him even if it was through lies.

"I may be nice, but I am no fool." Mariana remarked, another one of her quotes slipping past her lips. The girl lost a little respect for Cassius in that moment, as she did for every person that had mistaken her kindness for stupidity. Nevertheless, she still fancied him.

Cassius sighed in defeat and smiled at her, his eyes twinkling with lies and secrets although Mariana looked past that. All she saw was his charm and virtue.

The Slytherin boy suddenly began to lean into her, his head tilting to the side slightly. Mariana had dreamed about this moment many times. The moment where Cassius Kane would kiss her passionately and declare his undying love for her. But when it had come to it, Mariana didn't want to kiss him. Something felt wrong.

"Wolfsbane." Mariana whispered, resulting in Cassius's eyes opening in surprise.

"What?" He asked in confusion, and even a hint of shock. The Kane boy had never been stopped by anyone.

"Wolfsbane, it's the last ingredient of the Wiggenweld Potion." Mariana finished. Cassius looked visibly shocked and taken aback, he felt rejected.

Mariana smiled in pity at the boy, suddenly feeling bad for what she had done. "Goodnight, Cassius."

But, he was already gone. The boy had rushed out of the room, his strong cologne hitting Mariana in the face causing her to scrunch up her nose.

Mariana frowned, she figured the only boy she'd ever liked would never speak to her again. It crushed her, she knew she should have kissed him back.

But, she shook off her thoughts of doubt. Mariana knew that she should always trust her get, for it was always right.

Well, at least ninety-nine percent of the time.
