CHAPTER THREE: MAKE A MISTAKE
THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS that Lilianna hasn't experienced in her life that most teenagers do. She didn't get to experience high school, her mother having kept her homeschooled so that as soon as she finished any work for school that needed to be done, she could immediately switch to training. Which meant she never got to experience school dances, school drama, having friends that were outside of the hunting world. It was a lonely life that Lilianna lived in, yet she didn't mind it all that much.
Lilianna didn't mind being alone. She had been alone practically her whole life, the closest thing she had to a friend was her brother. And even then Grayson had managed to make friends outside of the hunting world and would hang out with them every chance they he got, leaving Lilianna in the home to focus sorely on her training. It was better that way anyways, according to her mother. Lilianna knew that her mother wanted her sole focus to be on her destiny, but somehow Lilianna couldn't find it in herself to believe her fate had been set all because of a birth mark that she had been born with.
The teenager enjoyed what she did for a living. She enjoyed hunting the supernatural, knowing what it was that they had done to her father. And even though she enjoyed it, she didn't obsess over it. Not like her mother did. All that her life had been filled with as of late was training and killing. She had started doing all of this when she was so young, the emotions that she used to feel when she would let that arrow release into the body of a supernatural creature started vanishing overtime. Now, she would barely even aim, her eyes blank and her jaw set as she would watch the creatures fall to the ground, dead.
Lilianna swore that if it wasn't for the existence of her brothers, the ability to laugh and smile would've left along with everything else. That's why she was so thankful that her mother had decided to have two children. She was glad that she wasn't completely alone. She was glad to know that she had a shoulder to lean on if she ever needed it. Her mother claimed that emotions made you weak, they made you sloppy, and that sooner or later Lilianna would realize this. And maybe somewhere in the back of her mind she agreed with those words, and maybe that's why her emotions seemed to disappear when she was practicing with her weapons.
"You trust me, don't you?" Lilianna asked her older brother.
Grayson stopped to look at her, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Do I trust you not to kill me? Sure. I don't think it's physically possible for you to make a mistake. That still doesn't dismiss the fact that I'm going to be praying for my life whilst I watch you throw knives towards me blindfolded, might I add, and try not to hit me. It would make every sane person a tad bit nervous." He pinched his fingers together, and Lilianna cocked an eyebrow at him.
She cocked her head, a mock frown on her face as she looked at him. "I didn't know you were sane."
"You know what―︎" He pointed towards her, clenching his jaw for a moment before sighing and forcing himself to relax when the amused smile fell on her face. He huffed, moving to stand against the target, stretching his arms and legs out. "Just don't kill me for the love of God."
"You're overexaggerating, don't you think?" Lilianna hummed.
"Let's just get this over with." Grayson muttered. Lilianna only nodded before placing the blindfold over her eyes, placing the five throwing knives in her hands. She grabbed one, standing up straight and allowing herself to breathe before quickly chucking the knife. When she didn't hear a scream of pain fall from her brothers lips, she knew she had been successful. She smirked, before throwing knife after knife, taking it upon herself to scare him as she quickly spun and threw the knife at full speed, causing him to jump in fright as it landed right between his legs.
Pulling the blindfold down so that it was around her neck, she smiled proudly at the fact that she hadn't murdered or injured her brother. Grayson, however, was glaring at her. "Did you have to do the last one so fast!" Grayson hissed, watching her as she made her way towards him in order to collect the sharp weapons.
"You're not dead, congratulations." Lilianna replied, smiling as she tossed one of the knives in her hand before catching it and looking back towards Grayson, watching as he removed himself from the target.
"Use a dummy next time, huh? Save myself from having a heart attack in fear of losing all of my limbs."
"Oh, please." Lilianna scoffed. "You knew that I wasn't going to hit you. Like you said, I think it's physically impossible for me to make a mistake."
"And when you do make a mistake, I'm going to be there to laugh." Grayson told her and she only smirked in amusement at his bitterness. She always knew how much he hated being her target, and even though he trusted her with his life, he still couldn't help but get agitated whenever they would come a little too close for comfort.
"You would just enjoy that wouldn't you?" She narrowed her eyes at him as the two made their way back.
"Oh, sweetheart, I would relish in it."
"Maybe I'll do my arrows on you next." Lilianna mumbled to herself, immediately earning an alarmed look from Grayson. He stopped in his tracks, watching as she made her way towards the weapons.
"That was a joke, right?" She didn't answer. "Lily, was that a joke? I am not doing that shit again!" He was quick to run up to her and by the time he had made it to her, she had her bow in her hand. She turned around and smiled widely at him.
"Buckle up, sweetheart. I haven't used my crossbow in a few weeks, so my aim might be a little off."
"I hate you." Grayson commented as she walked away again. "You know that! I hate your entire existence!"
Lilianna only smirked, glancing at him over her shoulder. "I love you too, brother! Now, come on, my arrows want something to dig their nails in."
