Parties and social gatherings were a normality in Dee's life. Since she was a teenager, there had always been an array of parties to choose from over the weekends, and since her mother was never overprotective, she was allowed to go wherever she wanted, within reason. Dee wondered what her life would have been like had she not been the party girl so young. She wondered what friends she would have made if she didn't drink every weekend, joining in party games and trying every alcohol she could get her hands on. She tried her first blunt at a party in her teens, and she never looked back. That too, turned into something she did to relax at a weekend.  At fifteen, she lost her virginity to a boy she knew from the party scene. Even though he was older and didn't go to her school, everybody heard about it, and suddenly she was one of the cool girls. She never intended to be a 'cool girl', in fact, when she was younger, she wanted to be a smart girl, a geek even. She wanted to learn and get a good job, but once she started going to parties and meeting new people, she realised there was more to life than studying, there was living.

Everybody Dee had met since in her life had been that type of person. She'd never met someone like a lawyer or a doctor; she'd only met strippers and ballers. It wasn't something she intended to do, but based on her social activity, it was what naturally happened. Though she wouldn't change her friends for the world, she wondered why none of them had a 'normal' job, and why she herself didn't either. Sometimes she wondered if it was because they enjoyed the party lifestyle too much. She was pretty sure that if you turned up to a normal job in some of the states she had to work, you'd be fired pretty quickly. Normal jobs require you to be professional; they expect you to be punctual and diligent, not oversleeping and turning up hungover.

Dee didn't go out to the club very often, besides the fact it was too much like going to work, she also found it expensive and sometimes, there was too much potential trouble. Generally, alcohol mixed with friends was great, but alcohol mixed with strangers wasn't always the best recipe, she found. Girls got too sloppy, guys got too eager, and Dee knew how to handle herself, so her usual aggressive nature was turned up with alcohol and someone who didn't know their place.

For Dee, 'going out' was better when you did it at someone's house. The liquor was cheaper, the weed was more open and all the people she loved were around her. In her circle of friends, there was nobody she didn't trust, and though she'd been left with some trust issues around potential boyfriends, the friends in her life had proven their worth time and time again. Friendship, like respect, was something you had to earn in Dee's opinion. She had made 'friends' with some bitches before who'd shown their true colours when the going got tough, who'd flaked out in a time of need, or simply only wanted her as a back up plan. Friendship was a two way street, a 100% commitment, and no half assed effort.

While Dee had been spending her time at home with baby Rio, her friends hadn't put a hold on their usual get togethers, and she'd missed being part of the group, though nothing could compare to spending time with her kids. But as Rio turned one month old, Tip's birthday rolled around and he was planning a huge house party for the occasion. Jason was happy to look after the kids while Dee went to the party – for him – he could take or leave a party, but he knew for Dee, this was her downtime and he wanted her to have a little fun. For Jason, it was a true test of fatherhood, to see if he could cope without her around. He'd never done the bedtime routine by himself, and he knew it would be strange, though certainly rewarding if he got through it. While Dee got ready in their bedroom, Jason took on the task of bathtime for Tushaun before a bedtime story. Amazingly, he ran into no problems and by the time Tushaun was falling asleep mid-way through the book, Jason felt like he could conquer the world.
