On our second day of school—well, I suppose technically it was the first day of class—we spent most of our time running over the course objectives.
Apparently, many of the students were quite surprised, if not a little
disappointed, by how genuinely warm and friendly the teachers at this
school looked. The red-haired guy had already made a spectacle of himself by spending most of the class asleep. I thought that the teachers would notice, but they showed no signs of doing so. After all, it was up to every individual student whether or not he or she wanted to listen in class.
I wondered if this was how teachers typically interacted with students once they left compulsory education.
Probably not, the teachers not paying attention to the student's actions could be a clue in itself. They knew about the ordeal that could happen on May 1st when the points are going to be distributed.
I concluded that the behaviour students display must have some type of relation to the points they receive. It directly correlates with the explanation Chabashira-sensei gave on how the points are distributed-
'The amount you’ve received reflects the evaluation of your worth.'But, then the question arises- Are we judged based on the performance of the entire class? Or, does everyone receives the amount of points according to their individual performance?
I decided to not rack my brain on such matters. It's only the start of the academic year, I have no reason to rush this process of figuring out the S-System.
One thing I knew for sure is that whatever the case, my classmates weren't doing good.
I took in the relaxed atmosphere, and soon it was lunchtime. Students stood up and left with their new acquaintances, disappearing from my view.
"How pathetic."
What's pathetic? I am certain I didn't show any emotion on my face unlike the last time.
"What? What’s pathetic?" I asked curiously.
"'I want someone to invite me along. I want to eat with someone!' Your thoughts are like an open book,” Horikita said.
"Those aren't my thoughts, why do you even bother to read my thoughts when there was no change in my facial expression?."
That was stupid of her to guess my thoughts to be so pitiful, just because I was looking at the students leaving together for lunch.
"Whatever," She said disinterestedly. "You don't seem to be any good at social interaction, I haven't seen you together with any other students. It seems despite staying back for the introductions you still failed to make friends."
I just shrugged which seemed to have annoyed her a bit.
"Well, I was thinking of heading to the cafeteria. Does anyone want to come with me?" announced Hirata as he stood. He was clearly one of those all-around good guys.
"Me! Me!"
"I will join you, Hirata-kun."
"I wanna come too."
Hirata was soon surrounded by girls who were desperately trying to gain his attention.
He looked around, presumably searching for a boy to accompany him, so even he feels uncomfortable with so many girls around.
His eyes darted around the class and landed on me. I could tell there was concern in his eyes as he looked at me. Is he worried about me or something?
Perhaps he was worried that I wouldn't fit into the class and end up at the bottom of the class hierarchy.
My thoughts about his concerns were put on hold as he called out for me.
"Ayanokouji-kun, would you like to join us?"
