Vernon Radella has always had to rely on herself, from a young age she was alone. Never was she physically alone, though, at least that was until her mother snapped. While Vernon was covering a night shift at the local supermarket, she had no idea of the horrors taking place in her home. In the twisted mind of her mother she thought the earth was no longer worthy of the presence of her father, her sister, Vaga, as well as herself. On a drunken rampage, she opened fire on her husband and youngest daughter while they sat unaware at the dining table, once she thought they had died, she turned the weapon on herself.
When Vernon arrived home she called out for her parents, there was no answer. She walked up to her parents room, they weren't there. She called out for Vaga, she didn't respond. Vernon went to her sister's room, her laptop was left on, but there was no sign of her. Every turn and there were no signs of her family. Tired and hungry after her long shift she decided she wanted to make herself something to eat. She went to the kitchen and the scene in front of her was one straight out of a horror movie, she had to be having a nightmare, surely this isn't her reality.
The first wave of shock had worn off, she called the police, ran outside and waited for them to show up. Once they arrived she was pulled to the side to answer some questions while police were in and out of the home. The officer was talking to her but she couldn't hear a thing, all she could do was think about what was going to happen now, she had no one. Another officer had come up to where she was standing, he informed her that her sister was to be transported to the hospital. After that everything was a blur, she thought everyone in her family was dead but now she had hope, she pushed the officer out of the way and ran until she found her sister.
In the ambulance she held Vaga's hand thinking of what the hell she was going to do, she had a little money saved that she was planning to use for college but now that was out of the question. While she waited for her sister to get out of surgery, she had finally decided she was going to pay for a place far away from the horror of this town. She was going to take care of her sister and make sure her life was as peaceful and happy as she could considering the current situation. As all these thoughts were running through her head a sweet looking old lady had sat down next to her. The woman asked what a young little lady like Vernon was doing all alone. As Vernon was telling the old lady the story, her heart shattered for the girl. When she finished telling her what happened, the woman told Vernon about a quaint little town, one she had grown up in, that was definitely open for new residents.
The town was Carp, Texas...
