The party had finally gotten boring so Vernon decided that was her cue to go home. Plus, it was late and she didn't want Mr. Alfie to have to leave later than necessary. When she arrived home she went straight into her sister's room, where Mr. Alfie was sitting in an armchair reading a book.

"Hey Mr. Alfie, has she been okay today?" She looked at her sister with a sad smile.

"She's been lovely, although she did have a hard time with physical therapy." He closed the book and got up from the chair.

"Okay well thank you for watching her, you have no idea how grateful I am for your help." Vernon gave Mr. Alfie a hug and led him to the door to say their goodbyes.

She walked back to her sister's room, sat on the side of her bed, and brushed the hair out of Vaga's face.

"Hey lovebug, how are you?" she whispered to her sister.

"I'm fine, Vern, but I want to go to sleep," she looked at her sister, "so leave." Vernon laughed and gave her a quick kiss on the forehead, whispering a goodnight.

Vernon made her way to the kitchen in search of something to eat. She opened the fridge and pulled out the left-overs of the dinner Mr. Alfie had made that night. She popped the food in the microwave before getting a glass of water, waiting for that certain beeping that she was impatiently waiting for. As soon as the food was finished, she pulled it out and made her way to the living room, wanting to watch some tv while she ate her dinner.

After all the chaos and partying that she had done she was absolutely exhausted, so shortly after she had finished her meal, she fell asleep on the couch. The next morning she was awoken by Vaga who was yelling out her name. With the fogginess of sleep on her brain she ran into the room thinking something was wrong.

"What's wrong? Is everything okay? Are you hurt?" Vernon was scrambling around the room looking to see if anything was out of the ordinary.

"God slow down, I'm fine, I am just thirsty."

"Why would you scream my name like that? I thought something was wrong?" She shouted at her sister, but nevertheless still grabbed the cup from the side table.

"Something was wrong. I am thirsty. Did you know I would only survive without water for three days? So this is basically attempted murder."

"Oh my god, shut up." She lifted the straw to Vaga's mouth, while holding a smile on her face because of her sister's dramatics.

As if on cue, when Vaga finished drinking, there was a knock on the door. Vernon put the cup back on the side table and went to greet whoever was at the door. When she opened it she was face to face with Mr. Alfie.

"Oh my god, Mr. Alfie, I didn't realize it was already 10. Please come in." She opened the door wide enough so that he could walk through.

"You know Vernon, I come over everyday at the same time. You must have had a rowdy night if you forgot I was coming." Vernon blushed as he chuckled at her. Although Mr. Alfie was the closest thing she had to a father now, he didn't really mind if she drank or smoked because he knew that she was responsible. "Also that boy you're always with is waiting for you outside, I told him that I'd let you know." Mr. Alfie winked at the girl, knowing for a fact that something has or is going to happen between the two.

Vernon opened the door, shouted from the porch to the boy, that she'd be ready in ten minutes. He just nodded so she went back inside, running around like a chicken with its head cut off, to get ready. She quickly threw on a bikini top with a shirt over and some jeans. After getting dressed she went into her sister's room to say goodbye, then ran to the door, grabbing her shoes on the way out.

"Sorry for taking so long." She hopped into the passenger side and began pulling her shoes on.

"You didn't. Who was that guy?" Ray looked over at Vernon, who was now avoiding eye contact.

"Oh um... he uh, he takes care of my plants when I'm gone. Yeah he's a super big plant guy, he likes to talk to them, said it makes them grow faster. Yeah, he um, he comes over everyday to talk to my plants." Vernon's words began falling out of her mouth, she barely even knew what she was actually saying.

Ray gave her a weird look knowing something was off about her explanation but it was obvious she didn't want to talk about it so he decided it was best not to question her further. All he gave her in response was a simple okay, to which Vernon's shoulders relaxed knowing that he wasn't going to interrogate her about it. Ray pulled the car out of park and began reversing out of her small driveway.

The whole drive to Ray's house was completely quiet apart from the soft sound of the radio playing. Vernon felt bad about lying to Ray, and all her friends for that matter, but she was scared how they would react to why she actually moved to Carp. And, if they knew about her sister she was afraid of what they might say about her, she didn't want the stress of everyone around the two to feel sorry for them, it made Vernon feel weak.
