(POST-CHAPTER 121)
~Emma is woken up from a deep sleep by a gentle hand on her shoulder.
Her tired eyes flutter open to see Norman, who is crouched in front of her with a subtle glint of excitement in his blue eyes.
"Come with me. I have something to show you." He whispers to her in the dark.
She quietly slips out of bed so as not to disturb the other children in the room, and follows him out into the winding halls of the base without question.
It had been a couple days since her family had arrived at Norman's base, the Paradise Hideout. And even though she would have loved to spend every minute of the day with Norman ever since she found out he was alive and well, Emma hasn't had the chance to see much of him at all.
Apparently, he spends most of his time locked away in his office, busy planning the revolution against the demons that they were to execute soon enough. Either that, or he was off on "errands" to who knows where, making preparations throughout the demon world in order for his plan to be without a flaw.
That's why it came as a pleasant surprise to have the opportunity to spend time with Norman tonight, even if she was still rather tired, and had absolutely no idea where he was taking her.
They walked side by side through the arching pathways within the great tree structure, the corridors an eery quiet in the night compared to the lively hustle and bustle of kids that constantly flowed through them during the day.
As they climbed up the spiralling stairs with silent steps, with Norman leading the way by the warm light of a handheld lamp, Emma couldn't help but smile to herself.
The scene reminded her so much of when they used to sneak around Gracefield house at night when they were kids. She remembered stepping carefully on the creaky hardwood floor by the light of a lamp just like this one, the both of them praying that Mama wouldn't wake up to stop them from whatever adventures they had in mind for the night.
Oh, how much she had dreamed of nights like those, nights where she was free from worldly concerns and where she could just have fun with her most favourite person.
Nights that she had so easily taken for granted before, and which she had begun to think were impossible to ever have again. That is, until she was reunited with Norman just days ago.He had only existed in her dreams for so long that sometimes, when she saw him now, she forgot that she wasn't still dreaming.
Emma is brought back to earth from her nostalgic daze when Norman rounds a corner and stops in front of a large wooden door. It seemed to her that it was a door like any other within the gigantic tree colony, so she couldn't fathom why he had looked so eager to bring her here. But, upon further inspection, she saw that the frame around this particular door had intricate little carvings of owls embedded in it.
The white-haired boy opens the door and when they both step inside, Emma lets out an awestruck gasp.
All around her were hundreds of owls, swooping majestically above her head, gazing down at them from perches that hung from the tall, looming ceiling, and sleeping in the shadows along the winding walls of the cylindrical room.
